I love that dorkmuffin mentioned Menomena. Such an underrated band.
For me, this year is the Arcade Fire's The Suburbs. While there is some 80's cheesiness to some song (I hate the 80s, sorry all), this album stands as a testament to the art of making amazing music and writing superbly, powerful lyrics that display the ugly face of our society.
The new Buffalo Daughter album The Weapons of Math Destruction is no let down, and neither is the Mass of the Fermenting Dregs one. I'm pretty sure they'll both be in my top ten by the end of the year.
I have to add to my previous comments as i just received an advance copy of the new Interpol album and it is bloody wonderful. I loved their 1st, but their 2nd and 3rd albums were a little disappointing. This new one is gorgeous.
@the_Critic, that's what i've been waiting to hear about Interpol for years.
okay! 2010 albums that rock: Mux Mool Four Tet Menomena Pocahaunted Kenseth Thibideau Baths Caribou Album Leaf Edibles Kisses Tobacco White Hinterland Yellow Swans Tunng (and Millionyoung had a great EP; waiting for a full-length.)
I must admit I haven't been really paying attention to anything this year, except a few albums here & there.
Autechre-Oversteps (The last few albums have been some serious electro-wank, but this has definitely surprised me!) Massive Attack- Heligoland (Certainly not their best, but still pretty awesome!) Arcade Fire- The Suburbs (Fantastic, if not as epic as Neon Bible)
I have to say How To Destroy Angels was a REAL disappointment...extremely average. I'm very eager to hear the new Interpol though, from what I've heard it seems pretty good...gonna have to hit the store for that one!
From reading the list here, I have a lot to catch up on!!!!!
Am loving Cerulean by Baths. The video for 'Lovely Bloodflow' is outstanding. Also still murderizing There Is Love In You by Four Tet on the ear goggles. The Inception soundtrack. DUN-DUN! DUN-DUN! DUN!!!
Heligoland was... odd. There are about two or three tracks on it I dig. I did buy as I was splitting up with someone, so my judgment might be skewed here. How To Destroy Angels was a bit like chewing gum... alright for about ten minutes and then... meh.
Waiting for Flying Lotus to turn up from the Amazonians.
Adding on to my comments earlier in the thread: Direct Hit have put out a series of amazing EPs in the last few years including two this year. They just keep getting better. The Credentials - Routines Iron Chic - Not Like This
@vickvega gave it props on the previous page, but The Root's "How I Got Over" is a fuckin' brilliant album..As usual, ?uestlove's production is damn-near perfection, and Blackthought's rhyming is out of this world....
....enough with the gushing Stevie...
Detroit producer Apollo Brown's "The Reset" is a damn fine record - his is a soulful sound somewhat in the mould of the late lamented J-Dilla, and with rappers such as Black Milk, Big Pooh and Grap Luva on board this is one of the finest hip-hop albums of the year.
i just listened "barricade" from interpol's new album and it's widely inferior to "heinrich manouver"....I hope the rest of the album improves. Or that it grows with more listenings.
The new Oceansize record, Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up, has some cracking tunes on. Stand out tracks include Superimposer, It's My Tail And I'll Chase It If I Want To, and Build Us A Rocket Then, You Rocket Building Cunt.
