Hmmm, bit of a cheat this one, as it's a compilation, but Cinematic Orchestra's Late Night Tales is superb.

There a bit where they mix Bjork's 'Joga' into Imogen Heap's 'Cumulus' that just kills me. Plus there's tons of stuff I wouldn't have heard before that I now want to discover.

Good to know Autechre are back on form, I couldn't get my head around Quaristice at all and felt a bit cheated.

@ texture thanks for reminding me about I'm new here,I just got it and its properly sorting my head out...although that could be partly due to listening to it on a valium and alcohol combo.

@KidAnarchy You're welcome, it's a brilliant album, although all too short.

Quite a few good albums so far, for me:

    Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here
    Sleigh Bells - Treats
    Fang Island - Fang Island
The Dead Weather - Sea of Cowards
John Zorn - In Search of the Miraculous
The Dreamers / John Zorn - Book of Angels 14: Ipos
    Wild Nothing - Gemini
    Richard Skelton - Landings
Robyn - Body Talk Pt. 1

And there's a handful of albums with one or two good tracks as well.

Jeez - everything I've bought has been great. But to narrow:

The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night
    Mike Patton Mondo Cane

and even though it's not until Sept. I'm putting the second Grinderman album from Nick Cave and crew here now, because I know it'll be top three of the year for me.

Hell yeah. Grinderman the second is bound to be awesome. Nick Cave has been on a little bit of a roll recently.

@Ninewhilenine83, have You seen the trailer they've made for the 2nd album? I've been watching it about once a day (at least). Soooo psyched. Here's a link:

The Big To Do from Drive By Truckers is the first standout album i've bought this year. They're a band that gets better with each album, I wish they were more popular. Also, I didn't know Nick Cave was working on a new Grinderman album, this has me excited.

The only albums from 2010 I have so far are Contra by Vampire Weekend and Volume Two by She & Him.
I daresay Contra is one of my favorite albums I own right now. The song California English is charming enough to make me look past their spelling of "you're" as "ur" in a track name, and that is saying something.
The She & Him one is cute if you're into that sort of thing. I figure I'll listen to it a lot, anyway.

For me so far the only two new albums I've really enjoyed are Dillinger Escape Plan, Option Paralysis and the Dead Weather, Sea of Cowards.

There are other albums that have come out that I will probably enjoy, but haven't bought yet...

@Corey Waits - yeah, that DEP is pretty great, I'd forgotten that was this year. They continue to expand and confound. Great band

    @ Shawn

Thankyou very much indeed, sir - the trailer had passed me by... doubly psyched now.

I'm going to nominate Japanese Cartoon's "In The Jaws Of The Lords Of Death" LP, available for free here:

It's Lupe Fiasco faking a UK accent in some bizarre alternate reality persona and channeling a peculiar blend of Mad Capsule Markets / Ramones / Radiohead flavored alt-conscious-hiphop-digirock. I'm not sure what kind of transistors he's wired to his brain lately, but I like it and I want more.

edit: here's "Gasp", arguably the best track of the bunch ( and by far the most docile ):

And presumably this is some kind of response to Atlantic delaying his long-awaited LASERS LP, or granted it could just be a throwaway project. Either way, it's good.

@robot9000 - thanks for posting that, pretty damn cool. I enjoyed the track and am heading over to get familiar with the group.

@robot9000 - I love Lupe, but was approaching that with trepidation. It's really pretty good though! Do you have any idea why the faux-British accent? It makes the whole thing rather surreal...

i'm starting to like the crystal castles album, the music is great but for once i'd actually like to hear her voice not covered up by over the top effects and distortion.. i dunno..

heard nick's got a new grinderman song/album coming out. missed the song on the radio, i'll have to hunt it out...

I'm weighing in again with the just-released-last-Tuesday Turning Lead Into Gold with the High Confessions album - Chris Connelly of Ministry fame back then and a marvelous solo career now, Steve Shelley, the drummer from Sonic Youth, Sanford Parker of Minsk and Jeremy Lemos of White/Light. Think Throbbing Gristle meets The Cure's Pornography meets... a slow mental breakdown in a small enclosed cement room. Fucking awesome album!

The New Books album is so great

I like the new LC! because it sounds like they're taking a step away from Twee

The Ocean's Heliocentric has been rocking my socks of late. I don't think it's as good as Precambrian, but it's one of the better albums I've heard to have been released this year.
