I dunno, not that funny to me. Not becasue i actually agree...im not a follower of Rand, although i agree with possibly 80% of her writings & philosophies
One of the things that strikes me about the hate for Rand is that its from creative persons a lot of the time, which i just can't understand, the mentality of belonging to a group or putting others before oneself in theory sounded great too but we see how thats played out at least historically for the past 100 years, groups, both religious and political killing and murdering for causes they follow or espouse.
It would be the same for a Hillary Clinton has a penis shirt, i might point it out but i don't think id laugh and i can't stand the Clintons.
Had Rand been a man, her writings would have been taken more seriously.
A lot of what she predicted has come to pass, and although her political and social writings are often ridiculed, they still hold a lot of merit...which is why i voted for Ron Paul as well, we have never tried letting individuals live thier own lives without government intrusion here in the US, i consider it a noble ideal. Before somone goes off on a tirade, i grew up in Baltimore city, lower middle class and pulled myself up out of it, no college. I abhor the welfare state we have here, especially the goverment and corporate collusion created corporate welfare.
either way i guess i should make a shirt too...
Something really juvenile like Karl Marx had a vagina, or Che shot women, or "Please help me big brother, i need you to run my life"
I've been considering posting a response to this thread myself but wasn't sure how to word what I wanted to say. I think that Randy74 has done it for me. Thank you, sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar.
Isn't that something that most people say about any independent woman with recognition? It's either lesbian or penis ownership jokes. You'd think creativity would come in to things since it's so easy. For instance if I wanted to go after a man with recognition: "John McCain has a form of Hemorrhoids that can only be picked up by thirteen year old boys from Bangkok." Or if we're going with the whole "I fear women" thing, we could go with the timeless classic lie: "Catherine the Great died while fucking a horse." At any rate, I have to agree with Randy74 on his points.
Now if I had to make an Ayn Rand shirt...it might say "Ayn Rand Was Weak" just to get a chuckle. Or even a picture of Ayn Rand shrugging.
Personally I found Ayn Rand's writing dull and boring. Part of that may have been the classroom setting of the reading, most of it may be a matter of personal taste. 'Ayn Rand has a penis' strikes me as something trite and dull; there seem to be a lot more creative ways of going about stating one's dislike or critiquing her as a person or her work that saying X-has-a-penis.
I don't know, I think if I had to do a Ayn Rand shirt, I'd have Ayn having fallen into a fountain, or getting stepped on by Atlas.
1. She said that collectivism is bad, which I partly agree with(any idea taken to the extreme is bad), then she goes and creates the Ayn Rand Collective.
2. She said that multiculturalism is bad. Well if you don't have multiculturism, you are left with monoculturism. Isn't a monoculture the same as a collective society? Every person wearing the same clothes, eating the same food, shopping at the same store, while driving the same car.
3. If I were to develop a shirt, it would have her picture with words "If it weren't for multiculturalism, you would look like this."
That combined with people's fear of personal responsability and wanting some higher power to take care of them so they can feel safe, be it government, or some other entity has got to be part of why her works and person are criticized so haphazardly. Hell i even heard Ron Paul and Ayn Rand's shared ideals, the ones they do share critiqued as social darwinism on another board, its amazing the stuff people will type or say without knowing a single thing on the subject.
I'm having a time out until I can learn some manners.
I would purchase one of those Che T-shirts. His lionisation is nothing short of reprehensible. Then again, we live in a Western world where it is deemed morally and socially acceptable to call one's self a communist.
