I have some pretty great news. My webcomic G.A.A.K: Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures that I did with artist Monique MacNaughton is going to be published. We've just signed a deal with indy small press book publisher First Run Publishing to publish "GAAK" as a graphic novel. It'll be out in september.

"GAAK" is a 50's style, monsters-run-amok, alien invasion adventure with a Spielberg flair and just a dash of Tim Burton weirdness that can best be described as The Goonies meets The Invaders from Mars. It was nominated for a Glyph Comic Award in 2007.

After 9 years of ups, downs, and inbetweens with this comic and trying to get it published we've finally come out on the winning end. And yeah, it feels really good. LOL! :)

    Thanks. :)

This is shaping up to be a pretty good publishng year for us. Before GAAK our comic The Continentals was signed to be published by Transfuzion Publishing. Gary Reed, former publisher of Caliber Comics, is the poobah at Transfuzion.

Hopefully this is the start of our publishing careers, because now that the door has been opened for us they're are a bunch of stories I'd like to try and get published.

Yeah, I think I'm experiencing both of those. They tend to alternate throughout the day. :)

Luckily the final fine tuning and preparation keeps my mind busy.

    Excitement!...Terror!....Excitement!...Terror!...

    Thanks. :)

I'm really getting into the "business" side of it now as opposed to the creative side. Things like getting promotional material ready to send out to bookstores and shops once the book is available for pre-orders soon.

Folks always forget that once you find a publisher is when the REAL WORK begins. I'm very hands on about it too knowing that "once you build it, they will come" only works in Kevin Costner movies. So an author has to bang the promotional drum for the work they've created just as loud or even louder then their publisher.

    Excitemnet!...Terror!...Excitement...Terror!... LOL!

-not sure if it was a typo, or a spellchecker error, but it did amuse me.

congrats! I gotta say, I love the way you drew the girl, because when I was a ten year old 5th grader, I totally wore a baseball cap backwards with by bangs sticking out the hole like that. Looking at it gave me a huge dose of nostalgia

Thanks. I've always had a thing for tomboys. LOL! And at the time I started writing GAAK Avril LaVigne had just come out doing her neo-notso-punk thing and she brought it all back to me. So I decided to make Jemmy (the character) a tomboy.
