It's a long weekend in the States, so I thought I'd give everyone something to do during the break. This will run until next Friday.

    Usual REMAKE/REMODEL rules apply:

No pen-portraits. This is ART ONLY. Posting just a bunch of text, or a scribble and a vast number of words, will get the thread closed and your account banned.

NO MORE PHOTO-MANIPULATION "art". I'll just delete them. People have been drenching recent threads with several pieces at a time that they've knocked out in photoshop in 2 minutes with no thought at all. I consider this to be taking the piss now.

HOWEVER: I will allow the interpolation of ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS into the work.

No more than ONE submission by any one person in any one REMAKE/REMODEL.

    Now then. Pay attention:

    --------------

This week, we do it a bit like our friends at Project Rooftop.

    Here's what you know.

Dan Dare, pilot of the future. Colonel Dan Dare, in fact, chief pilot of Spacefleet.

(Spacefleet always seemed resolutely British, with a few token foreign johnnies thrown in, presumably as spaceship ballast or a nod to the fact that there are three or four countries on the planet other than Britain.)

Dan Dare is a man who has taken skiing holidays on the northern slopes of Mars.

The stories were set in the late 1990s but the dialogue and manner of the characters is reminiscent of British war films of the 1950s. (As was the tech.)

As well as flying the mighty vessels of Spacefleet (which could reach as far as Saturn on the one side and Mercury on the other) Col. Dare had a personal spacecraft called the Anastasia.

    ----------------

    You have one week.

I'm off to the Pacific Northwest woods for two weeks to fight for hiking and camping space against all the TWILIGHT fans who will also be out there, so I'll have to see the results of this when I return.
(I swear to God, we didn't remember that all the books take place in Forks, one of the places we're staying. I SWEAR it's true)

    Godspeed, you magnificent REMAKERS...

I picked up a Dare reprint book ("The Man from Nowhere") on Warren's advice and liked it a lot. I look forward to what the folks with talent come up with.

@Paul: SAME THING happened to me last year.

I hope to see some evolved character concepts from the 2000 AD remake.

I know I've said this before, but man.. when you post remodels like this, it makes me really wish Mr. Wieringo were still here to amaze us with something utterly brilliant.

    Paul,

If you're in that neck of the woods, try to make a stop at Olympic Hot Springs - totally worth the hike!

I created two colour variations for this one.

Green- A reference to the the green used by the British military.

Red- Inspired by Dan Dare's original costume.

I'd be interested in hearing what colour everyone prefers...

    Dan Dare (green)

    Dan Dare (red)

@tobot Well, I'm guessing that you got the effect you were going for. I'll skip making my anti-nazi opinion, and move on to making a more useful constructive criticism.

I really like the concept of the hat/helmet bubble. It looks a bit different, but that much I dig.

The skull & crossbones belt buckle seems out of place compared to how very detail-oriented the rest of your piece is.

thanks for the feedback, i can see what you mean with the belt buckle, looks quite out of place.
Of course i bear no sympathy for the national socialist party this is more intended as an alternative universe type jobby.

Hey everybody, been a while since I did something for one of these remake threads. Here's kicking the rust off.

Colonel Dan Dare, pilot of the future, totally bombing the shit out of some really strategic hill on Mars.
