    I haven't had tea I didn't like which has unfortunately, made me lazy. I can say I'm in the mood for chai, or matcha and that's about it. I'm largely dependent on my local tea shop. I mumble something vague and they make something with a name I can't remember that tastes just right.

    This thread and a coworker with a teapot on his desk have inspired me to pay more attention... and possibly ween myself off the Redbull a little.

    Chai is essentially just Darjeeling Tea (from the tea trees native to Darjeeling) with some cinnamon, Anise, cardamom, ginger and cloves. And is quite possibly one of my favorite things to drink (alcoholic or non) with a little almond milk and honey or what have you. If you get straight Darjeeling Tea, you can mix your own brew, which after your first few tries turns out pretty nice.
    Sometimes though, I don't want any milk, I'll want just a straight black tea (Darjeeling I brake for), or a white or green (Dragon Pearl) Oolong or the like.
    As far a rooibos goes (though not actually tea), there's a great Madagascar Vanilla blend I got pounds of from god knows where that I really enjoy over my new books on a Wednesday afternoon.

    When chai first started appearing in coffeehouses in CA many years ago, the place I went served it hot and with no milk. I really loved it that way - spicy and crisp. I was appalled when everyplace started serving it in lattes only - milky and sweet and almost no tea or spice flavor. Yuck. I make mine at home now, when I want it, with the exception of the occasional iced chai latte in the summer.

    A few days past, sick at home and drowning in phlegm, I brewed up a pot of Monk Pear tea from T2 (Black tea, bergamont, jasmine flower and pear) and suddenly everything sucked just a little less.

    Chai should be all the ingredients (you know what you like in your chai) steeped in milk for hours and hours. Strong, sweet and spicy.

    The first chai I had was iced, with just a splash of milk, not half-n-half. That was very good, though I could have done with more ginger. Seattle's Best makes an OK hot blend, but it turns sour if you don't drink it ten minutes or so, which is sad.

    I remember that. I drank so much of it and was so caffeinated I ended up calling my parents and forcefully insisting that I had "attained enlightenment."
    But it wore off in a day or two.

    Sometimes I like to just get a few litres of milk on the stove and boil some chai spice in, adding some extra cinnamon and honey and whatnot... it's really easy to turn anything chai delicious.
    But that's not what I'm here to tell you.

    Rose petal/ pear tea I happened upon today. Maybe I'm just kinda fruity, but damn if it didn't go down nice. Sweet, but still kind of bitter in a good way, much better to hve oversteeped than under. And a dash of whiskey perfects any tea, I'm sure we all assumed.

    My looseleaf Oolong tea has gone over. This is a sad, sad day.

    On the other hand, I've discovered Assam Breakfast, from Republic of Tea.

    The honey-ginseng-mint tea I mentioned above is by Gevalia. I have a hot steaming mug of it in front of me. Yum. That's my 'back in the body' tea!

    Hambleden Teas' Crimson glory is pretty tasty, and yes, it is a very red tea :) I have a lot of exciting flavours of Twinings herbals too, but mainly, and frankly, I just like to drink tea. Plain normal happy tea. Tea.

    At the moment I have switched to Tetley Decaf to see if that helps me not have vision disturbances. So far, I can see better. Hurrah! What makes me come to try this experiment? My uncle. If he doesnt drink coffee for 2 days before an eyetest he comes out with 20/20 vision.

    I need a liter of green just to get through work, and another of a decaffeinated variety to get through dinner. I don't know the brand though, it's something slightly upscale from the supermarket, a notch above Lipton's.

    Speaking of Lipton's, however, I've found that if I drink their green tea first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, I will invariably throw up. So if anyone needs to get out of an exam or something, it's subtle.

    At the moment I'm pining for the seasonal chestnut flavor sold by Adagio, which I take with the smallest measurable amount of milk and sugar. But winter's almost over, and all tea will soon take the form of sticky mason jars full of sliced lemons with ants clinging to the lip.

    I almost feel bad about sticking my head in on this one, as it would appear that everyone is talking about brewed teas, but if you're ever looking for a convenient tea fix on the go (as I usually am), may I recommend Xing Tea. Most of their flavors are fairly yummy. I'm not partial to the lemon blend, but the lemonade half and half is wonderful, as are the Mango, Pomegranate and plain green tea. Cans are big too, so they can last a good portion of the day.

    I've got no problem with canned teas, though I prefer brewed. Unsweetened Nestea is a nice little treat sometimes.

    Barley Tea, Mugi-cha isn't ACTUALLY tea, it's just roasted malted barley steeped in boiling water and then chilled over night. That's it. You can get malted barley from a supermarket and roast it yourself if you want to do it from scratch (That's how I first did it)

    My favorite tea (commercially produced) is Constant Comment.
    My favorite real teas (looseleaf purchased from an independent tea store) are Bogey and Bacall (think fruity green tea with a rose aftertaste), An Afternoon with Aunt Faye (an EXCELLENT black blend), Ceylon Nawalakande (black single estate tea), and this really nice rooibos vanilla chai. I'd link to my supplier, but her website is down.

    As far as infusers go, I use a glass infuser. It doesn't leave any sort of aftertaste. For black unflavored teas, I like to use my mom's 40 year old brownware teapot, and spiced blacks (constant comment) in my 60's ceramic teapot. Everything else gets done up in the glass teapot or directly infused into my neat glass cup.


    Oh, duh: my "I am sick give me delicious soothing things else I will take your head off with this butter knife" tea is a half-and-half blend of looseleaf chamomile and dried mint from my back garden. When I'm *really* cranky, I use the chocolate mint. If the sick is girly-bits induced, I add some fresh lemon balm to the mix.

    It was the house blend called Lily's Delight. Most awesome, ever it kind of had a creamyness to it without milk. I keep meaning to stop by and buy some from myself.

    I have a new favourite green tea - Precious Eyebrow. It's not my usual flavoured sencha, but it is gorgeous. I've also got a new fruit tea - Kir Royale. I've left the packet at work, so I can't check what's in it, but it tastes glorious
