    Hey gang!

We've got an amazing bunch of fine music makers on this forum, and collaborations are always fun. Distances being what they are, I'd like to try doing this over the net, in realtime(-ish).

NINJAM might be the best platform for this; I've heard some people have used Skype as well, but that seems a bit too flaky to rely on. Of course if NINJAM seems too tricky to get folks on board we could look at other options.

Good idea? Takers? I say let's bust the summer ennui and get something new going!

This needs to happen. I've heard of people using skype before but ninjam sounds pretty interesting.

I'll bring my guitar, mandolin, and some motherfucking rock for good measure.

ETA: Brit here, so I'm all about the GMT.

The Smiling Buddha Jesus says: If you want it to happen, set a date.

I'm thinking about the latter half of next week. Thursday might be good, as people tend to have lives on weekends? Let me know your preferences on this, I've got next week pretty much wide open.

MUSICIANS! Tell us your instruments and timezones, too!

It'd probably be a good idea to kick up some sort of chat for the Orchestra, too, as to discuss potentially drastic changes and inform folks about members leaving and joining in. NINJAM supports playing in tempo (kinda, see the link), so we don't even have to go the 0 BPM ambient drone route on this.

    To Be Done:
    - Easy to use streaming for listeners.
    - Recording the whole thing.

I'll bring my melodica, organ, synths/sampler/sound design. I'm in GMT-5 but it's not really an issue; I'm ok with anytime you all want.

I've no idea what technology you're talking about , am miles behind on other projects ( including stuff for texture ) and may be in Cornwall without internet , but if possible...I'm in ! GMT. Got a zither , harmonium , and a couple of toy keyboards.

Good good. Let's see if we can get more people on board once the Americas wake up. It's also going to be interesting to see how long the concert will go on as timezones come and go.

Incidentally, if any of you are feeling maybe intimidated and therefore not joining up, relax. I can't even play Paranoid.

I'm totally into this but not sure how to make it happen on my end. My computer is in my hobbit hole apartment and my guitar rig is in a rented rehearsal space. I can try to borrow a laptop perhaps. Anyway, there are logistical problems for me to solve here.
I believe I am GMT -8 over here. Guitar is the only instrument I am proficient on...though I dabble with others.

BTW, I'm wondering if someone on the interwebs has already come up with a calculator/algorithm for determining optimal times when dealing with multiple time zones. Seems likely.

Something like this maybe?: World TimeServer Meeting Planner

For example: Finland + UK + 3 US Time zones

    Oh, that's spiffy!

Looks like starting at ten PM or so on my end would give use a pretty workable solution, although this does make me think about a weekend session. If it starts at 10 PM my time, we'd be talking noon in California.

    So, we're talking a two-day spread, as it were. Thu/Fri, Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun?

Well, theoretically weekends are better for me because of the whole pesky "work" thing...but I may be in a minority on that one.
I'll have to get crackin' on solving the technical problems on my end.
  3.  (8543.15)
    brilliant idea.

I'm Greenwich MEAN time, it's the meanest.

I can bring onboard any variety of weird and fucked up instruments that i've made. tin can erhu, cookie tin bendjo's, two stringed banjo's, coconut balilika's, my cloche harp and coffe can kora harp and also my spinal surgery rod box are all sitting neatly to the right of my desk! and the more conventional bass/guitar too if needs be.

my connection is slow as fuck though, so i am very worried about laginess on my end...
  4.  (8543.16)
I'd love to get in on this. I'll have to experiment this weekend and see if I actually can.

Guitars and keys for me. I have other instruments, but guitar and keyboard I can play at any time of night, because they are quiet to the world.

I'm running GMT-8 over here on the left coast.

I might be able to make it. If I do, it's going to be synths, guitar and assorted noise generators.

    Wonderful lineup, so far.

I'm going to try the server side of things tomorrow. That'll tell us how many musicians the system can have on at the same time. Also, because I'm an eedjit, I miscalculated the timezone thing. We're all on the same date after all.

    So, Saturday good? Starting at 10PM (GMT+2) / 8PM (GMT) / 3PM (GMT-5) / 1PM (GMT-7) / GMT 12PM NOON (GMT-8).

Let me know if I've screwed up the calculations, I may have heatstroke.

Dah, I'm gonna have to sit this one out, it's my girl's birthday that night. Will definitely watch the replays and count me in for the sequel!
