I've had to re-purpose this server's hamsters over to the Bleeding Cool server this week to keep up with all the hoopla over our industry's greatest spectacle, so there is no episode today.
I'm at work, creating Facebook memes about Spam Javelins. I wish I was at SDCC instead. Playing the Wickerman Festival tonight, will post some pics from that when I get back, m'kay? Also - I really, really, really want that field bag. I'm going to a field tonight, and I don't have a field bag!
As I was saying on Twitter, I don't mind Freakangels skipweeks because that means the series will last longer.
If you're not at SDCC, how's it going (pictures, please)?
I am not at SDCC though I wish everyone there a perfect time. I was at IBBM last Wednesday. IBBM means: Iron Brussels Beer Marathon The end of the marathon occured at the Fuse (a mythical club where new tracks from Detroit used to be heard first there in continental Europe)
Like a nation of Whitechapelers I'd rather be at SDCC, sigh. Please add SDCC pictures.
I quit going to ComiCon somewhere around 04 (I think). Way, WAY too crowded for me, and I have friends insisting it's far worse now. But still, I am sad to miss the panels and meeting my favorite writers, etc. I just have to keep in mind that the social anxiety would overwhelm any fun I might have. All the same, *everyone* seems to be having a skip week because they're in San Diego. So... it's quiet here. Friends are down south and my usual Friday entertainments aren't around... oh well.
@razrangel My first year was '03 and I've gone every year since (this is the first year since I started I'm not going, boooo) and it is indeed FAR worse. Preview night last year was hellish, but I've heard they've remedied that this year by limiting the number of preview night badges and made it more comfortable. I think they're doing what they can to decrease the number of people while still leaving it open to many (i.e. raising ticket prices)
Living on the other side of the planet SDCC isn't really an option - instead I'm entertaining myself by writhing around in agony with the devil-cold from hell. I strongly suspect my sinuses have been stuffed with mustard while I wasn't looking.
I live in San Diego, and I have been to the SDCC a few times. Its always crowded and expensive. I liked it better before the graphic novel was so popular. How many of these people only come here so they can dress up as their fave comic hero?
As for meeting the authors, I once met someone who I had only heard on the radio and they sounded much, much taller on the radio....
From the fan side, all the hype makes me pine a bit for the days when being a comic fan was scruffy and disreputable, and actually attending a con, rather more so.
But the rational adult in me is happier that the comic scene is seeing its due, and (some) creators are making an adequate living instead of recycling their own colons for sustenance.
Granted, making something that is good (like FreakAngels) is cause for celebration. Perhaps in the future more creators will find their pots of gold, as the industry matures.
Back today, twas a tad gruelling. Had some fun, spent a bunch of money, glad to be home sleep-deprived from my 3:30 AM wake-up and all. The following four pics pretty much sum it up for me.
