I've been having a bunch of angry dreams lately, so I decided I must not be listening to the right kind of music. all day I've been feeding stuff into Winamp as it struck my fancy. this is what I came up with:
1. Nine Inch Nails - I Do Not Want This (5:40) 2. Filter - Hey Man Nice Shot (5:15) 3. Geto Boys - Still (7:07) 4. Anthrax - Caught in a Mosh (5:00) 5. Nine Inch Nails - March of the Pigs (2:58) 6. Dj Outblast - Fuck what you heard (Vince Remix) (4:36) 7. Metallica - Damage Inc. (5:29) 8. godhead - You Mean Nothing (2:54) 9. Miyavi - Kusare Sotomichi he -Son of bitch- (2:25) 10. DAF - DER SHERIFF (6:22) 11. Nine Inch Nails - Wish (3:46) 12. Frank Black & The Catholics - I Switched You (5:18) 13. Prong - Controller (3:38) 14. Scarface - No Tears (2:27) 15. Clutch - Binge And Purge (6:28) 16. godhead - Lift (3:01) 17. Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized (3:49) 18. P. Diddy & The Family - Victory (Nine Inch Nails Remix) (5:33) 19. 12 - Nine Inch Nails - Burn (5:01) 20. Mose Allison - If You Live (2:31)
I notice that some of it is angry in sound, some just in subject matter. loud and fast is the shit; swearing is the shit; but Mose Allison with his laid-back, well-turned bitterness is also the shit.
@Ben - you've never heard Mose Allison? maybe I should repost this with Mediafire links.
@Z - DropKick Murphys... that's not that "Irish punk" band the kids are listening to, is it? as to the other two, haven't heard of them, maybe will check them out. I should've warned that most of this was going to be old school. *grin*
@Ben-- Gravity Kills, that sounds vaguely familiar. did they do a song on the Se7en soundtrack? Girls Against Boys, don't know 'em. my musical knowledge of any era is far from complete, I'm sorry to say. pretty much everything I like is music I was introduced to by a friend or I found on the interwebs.
will mediafire the tracks this evening. I found a new one, too.
Z@ :P They were also first thrown into the spotlight after doing a split cd with Face To Face and subsequently touring on the Warped Tour for....ever really. Can't say I've enjoyed them since I've graduated highschool, and I really do wonder why they're still around.
The 'Face to Face vs. Dropkick Murphys' EP was 2002. The Departed soundtrack was 2006. I was going with 'recent resurgence' because it sounds nicer than, 'yeah they lucked out with a bit of press after slogging in the pits with the kids for several years'.
They're still around because they put on a great show, or as we yankees put it, a 'wicked good show'.
They still do Warped Tour every once in a while. Epitaph, Anti and the rest of Rancid have given them tons of help as well. I still hold firm that they have no place in an Angry Music Playlist.*I guess I should state that in the first place, "They have no place in an Angry Music Playlist!"* Unless you're from Boston, or Irish, or in the middle of a large drunken crowd.
That's a really short version of that song, and most of the videos I've seen on the net are pretty shitty quality. Nuts.
Gravity Kills seems to have an AMV following. Which I find a little strange, as the last time that I heard about them they had done something with the sountrack of an off-road SUV racing game. The game itself brought one thought to my mind, "Frat boys furiously masturbating" ick.
@Will : Pretty much every band is around for MUCH longer than the public spotlight ever hints. If you want to count how long they've been making music together, I'd probably wager that they've been doing it since the mid 80s. They might have been in highschool, but they would still have been a band.
I just can't listen to the Dropkick Murphys without being reminded of the Pogues. that makes me want to put on the Pogues, so I do. hence I don't listen to the DMs all that much. for what it's worth, I wouldn't put the Pogues on an angry music soundtrack either.
I would like very much to see all your playlists, for anger or any other emotion. ;)
