Anyone listen to any online radio out there?
You know, the ones outside the mainstream eye and stuff like that.
    Recommendations are welcomed!

Here's an oooooold discussion to get things started (seriously, only the 34th discussion ever posted to Whitechapel) -- but we can definitely start a new one because some of those links are bound to be dead/changed/etc.

Yeah, let´s start a new discussion.
What i´ve been looking for is the underground stuff, not the already established radio stations.
    Edit:
    What i´ve found so far:

http://www.clockworkcabaret.com/ - listening to it right now, to a ongoing interview.

    and

http://stream.cyberpunked.net:8000/fallback.m3u - shame its not working.

Yeah, that's mostly what's on the previous list.

I´ll take a better look on the previous, once i get some stuff out of my head.

    Futurepunk - seems dead now

Checking out the dub radio stations, so far so good.

    Edit:
Great listen - http://www.the1920snetwork.com/streams/index.html - "Dedicated to playing everything from 1900 to 1950"

OK knuckles wrapped, looking down at feet slightly embarrassed for not finding this thread before starting a new one (I did do a search for keywords first, honest guv)

I'll check out the 1920s network one. It looks similar to radio dismuke

edit - oh crap, there are now 3 web radio threads on the front page. I'm off to the pub, I may be some time.... Sorry.

I really like hollow earth radio and pilota.fm and I hope that it comes back as a medium.

It's a freeform station, mostly run by students and residents of the Medford/Somerville area, just north of Boston. For a real treat, tune in on Fridays at 10 for two hours of the newest music this side of the internet and maybe some comics and campus talk too, as THE FOURTH WORLD with DJ Metron (and yes, it does have to be in all caps. Always) takes to the air. I hear that enigmatic DJ Metron is one handsome devil. It's too bad myhis parents will be there this week, watching him record the show, or he'd definitely send a shoutout to all you Whitechapelers.

He's, uhh, a very good friend of mine. Yeah, that's it. I've got an in with him.

I don't mind NME radio. it's great to have in the background most of the time.

Incidentally, does anyone here have experience on streaming an internet radio? I'm looking at Icecast at the moment, and it seems rather straightforward, apart from hitting the upstream bandwidth limit...

Yea taphead, It is ludicrously simple. Not sure how your hitting your upstream limit unless you are on dialup, 3g or are hosting the icecast server on your home broadband.

A Friday night whitechapel stream relay. Now that would be fun.

I too thought Icecast capped the number of listeners who can sit on a stream.

Honestly, finding some decent internet radio stations would be really nice. I think all the ones I used to listen to years ago died. (I used Second Life as a streaming radio receiver for a long time, too)

The listener number can be set by the server admin, in theory it can be as large as your server hosts big fat data pipe and your budget will allow. I tend to use shoutcast though as its easier to maintain and you dont have to patch it to stream mp3 (icecast defaults to ogg).

Some servers you hire on a bandwith usage basis others charge you per listener but its crazy cheap these days.

I have an AV for secondlife called radio, I just park him up places to listen to music while i do other things.

Second Life! Yes! God yes! I never really bothered with the whole exploring/gambling element to it. Most of the time I would go to one of the "clubs", turn off the other sounds (so I wouldn't hear a "WOOO!" every five seconds) and go and do my housework...

Hmm. Looks like I'll be testing my upstream next month. Time to take Dead City Radio on the air.

Now, a Whitechapel radio? That would be nice. We have a whole bunch of incredible DJ's on this forum.

Huh. That's the second time today I've heard of Second Life being used for something actually useful. My lecturer told me today about how there are language classes that are run. Maybe one of these days I'll give it a go...

I'm probably gonna get borked for this as I only joined this forum like 10 mns ago but.
I do a live jazz show in SL every Saturday - have done for about 4 1/2 years. It's a weekly theme driven show with lots of detours into world, R&B and elsewhere. Please tune it up anytime if you're interested. Details are all here:
