Having just got home from an evening in the pub in which conversations were had with someone from Sweden, I've been made painfully aware that it's been over 15 years since I last really *saw* the night sky.
Properly. With no light pollution so you can see the Milky Way rather than just the dozen or so stars that are powerful enough to burn through the orange haze that dominates the Thames Valley.
So, I probably have some time off available to me in the coming weeks, but no more than a long weekend at once.
Suggestions: Where can I go, in the UK, as someone who can't drive, and somehow get to see the night sky properly. I am fully prepared to do some walking and sleep in my crappy tent if need be. But I've got to be able to get there and back from Guildford over a long weekend.
Anywhere in Scotland outside of the cities is pretty good for the night sky, the further north the better generally. After all, it's not like there are any fucking human beings up here.
