Black Feelings, a band from Montreal, i think, who sound like 70s brit-punk filtered through a Comets on Fire record. hrm.

plus the new Books, Menomena, and Broken Social Scene.

for the last week or so i've been listening to "1901" by Phoenix on repeat. it's a really amazing driving song. haven't the foggiest what the lyrics are, but the song itself is just triumph, somehow.

Swans - My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky - I enjoyed the hell outta the 'sketches' for this record (I am not insane) and this IS living up to the good reviews I've read.

I've been checking out Boat Beam who feature a girl who used to be in a fucking brilliant band called Terrapin when she used to live in Sydney. I tracked her down a couple of years after they broke up and she sent me their EP and some other tidbits. I love her voice.

Other than that; the ipod is on shuffle and I'm mostly stopping to take in this David Lynch audio book, 'Catching The Big Fish', which he reads.

Iron Maiden - Final Frontier : Significantly better than Matter of Life And Death. Sounds like lots of classic Maiden riffs and refrains repackaged in 7+ minute songs (some good) but with Bruce's voice saying its final adieu. First two minutes of track 1 were a big surprise. Thought I'd put on a Muse record by mistake.
Mark Lanegan & Isobel Campbell - Hawk : I could listen to Mark's sub-bass rumble of a voice for ages and again it's counterpointed nicely by Isobel's high alto. A good third album.
Thomas Koner - Permafrost, Teimo, Nunatak reissues : Cold, arctic ambience for stark moods

Just acquired Bonobo's discography, after having burned through his latest - Black Sands. The new playlist also includes Society of Soul's album from the 90's featuring Sleepy Brown and appearances from Goodie Mob and Outkast. Super impressed with both the album and Sleepy Brown's unreleased solo albums, having only known him previously as the hook man for Outkast and all their affiliated Atlanta rappers.

When looking for new stuff, I also listen to KCRW.com, and Garth Trinidad's radio show there. Daily 2 hour show with fringe hip hop, neo and classic soul, classics that seed modern sounds, and a wide variety of music from around the world. That's where I got this gem

Listening to Gas - Gas on Raster Noton, Marizio's M-series, and Monolake's Polygon Cities for some deep spaceness - Whoever mentioned Landcruising; I've had Mind of a Machine on repeat too.

@station's dubtechno mix is getting played a fair bit, as is @Leo Cavello's stuff from bandcamp.

Mostly I've been playing with my new synth, the Mopho. I've worked out how to make it very dubby now, which is cool....

finally back in the writing mood now that an artist whom i wanted to work with a little bit ago (but hes a legit artist, with gallery shows and a teaching job so i didnt really wanna bug him with non paying comics stuff) approached ME about doing stuff. wrote him up the synopsis/ 'pitch' while listening to PUBLIC HUMILIATION over and over. im pretty sure that in the long run, this will probably end up being the best 'harsh' record from 2009. its just so goddamn good.

i like your style...i know for me personally i was too busy being WAY TOO PUNK FOR EVERYTHING to ever give Three Cheers a cahnce until about five years after it came out. great pop album by my favorite pop band of the past decade.

Agreed.

Got into the Falcon from the AK3 side of things (massive fan of their earlier material, still buy the albums in hope... hope...), and that's led me (again) to appreciate the Lawrence Arms. I must admit to having the same bias against MCR apart from I only just gave it a fair listen (unforgivable really). Decided to give it a go after reading Gerard Way's Umbrella Academy and found it to be fun and interesting, I thought that surely the music musn't be all that bad. Lo and behold it's actually a great pop record.

I too know the pain of juuuust missing Hot Water Music. Oddly, I've seen all of the members perform, just with different bands. When I lived in Gainesville, I got to see the Draft a few times (so there's 75% of HWM), and then I saw Chuck Ragan play on the Revival Tour with Tim Barry and Ben Nichols. But never did get to see HWM.
