This is a bit cheeky, as one of the editors of WEIRD TALES is a semi-reg here. But this might be fun.

No pen-portraits. This is ART ONLY. Posting just a bunch of text, or a scribble and a vast number of words, will get the thread closed and your account banned.

NO MORE PHOTO-MANIPULATION "art". I'll just delete them. People have been drenching recent threads with several pieces at a time that they've knocked out in photoshop in 2 minutes with no thought at all. I consider this to be taking the piss now.

No more than ONE submission by any one person in any one REMAKE/REMODEL.

    So here's the deal:

    You are an artist/designer.

You have to put together the cover for the winter issue of something called WEIRD TALES.

You have been told that WT is the long-running magazine of Strange Fiction in the world. It published HP Lovecraft. It published Robert E Howard. Tennessee Williams. Ray Bradbury. Ramsay Campbell. Tanith Lee. Michael Moorcock. Its illustrators have included the wonderful Margaret Brundage, Virgil Finlay and Hannes Bok. Spooky stuff. Mysterious stuff. Strange stuff.

Weird Tales publishes The Weird Shit. And now you must design a cover for the most venerable and yet modern magazine of The Weird Shit.

    You have one week. Go.

There's SO much talent and outsider madness going on in this community - and this particular selection gives all of that more or less free reign entirely - this should be fun.

Virgil Finlay... there's an artist I haven't thought about in awhile. Hope I can get in on this, but it's crunch time on my paying gig, so we'll see...

Why do you tempt me away from my already-overwhelming previous obligations?

Spent the better part of three-four hours drawing my vision of Cthulhu... my eyes are bleeding. Just facing the difficulty of how to continue doing the image I had in my mind as I quite like the pencilwork. Dont want to ruin it with colours and inking... argh!

Great way to kill a lunch hour, I went for a creepy weird shit angle on this one. Thanks to @vandalhandle over on the draw each other thread for the inspiration (no offense meant, as far as the creepy thing). Looking forward to seeing how weird this will get.

Indeed. :D I'm not in charge of the mag anymore, but I'm watching, and I'll be giving the new art director a heads-up. Consider it open auditions.

    Consider me auditioned, and thanks.

Fred, if it's not too silly a request - what font is that, and where'd you get it? It looks like just the one I need...

FredG, RAid71: Nice first salvos! Way to start the thread off with a bang.

Here's mine: I put my "Weird" aspect into the typography design.

All story titles are fake. No really.

I have something in the works. I have to sneak art time in when my wife's not around to make me pack stuff in boxes.
