Wolfskin...a warrior comic with drugs featured prominently. Love the distrust of machines, love the fucked up fever dreams. Art and script are wonderful. Would love to see title character in a city. It is Conan done right for this day and age.
I like this series much more than the first one. Good group of people that don't always see eye to eye, beautiful art taking up many pages at a time, similar colours on everything but it's all very distinct.
I was not a fan of the original 3 issue mini but this new series is amazing. I love the supporting cast of characters that are fighting with Wolfskin and the whole overarching theme of a barbarian who is fighting against a changing world, a slowly industrialized world is just brilliant.
In a way similar to themes John Milius was writing about in his second Conan (unproduced) script (downloaded it on a movie script site) - Conan basically becomes a King and has to deal with civilization, politics, treachery, etc..he returns to his barbaric ways of course to defeat his enemies and gives a speech saying that civilization is just ripples in a pond...some great stuff (and take it as a compliment that this mini reminds me of Milius' work!)
My LCS didn't get it last week, or this week, but I anxiously await it because it has been really enjoyable so far. Great variety and contrast in the characters, smart subtle humour, exceedingly well choreographed violence, and I couldn't possibly say enough about the excellent artwork of Gianluca. Great stuff!
Just read this the other night. Always behind I am. Picked up the first three at SDCC and read them all in the a row. Dig the story so far, definitely my favorite Wolfskin tale to date (yeah I'm a sucker for these semi-pubescent medieval motley crew of miscreants on a special mission of importance type stories). But the one thing that stick out with this series is Gianluca crushing with his work! I have to say I've thought of him as somewhere between competent and good prior to this series. Now I think of him as extraordinary! Really it's phenomenal artwork.
