    there've been several ginger companions (including arch brit ginger Bonnie Langford) and a comment from the newly regenerated 10th that he was disappointed he wasn't ginger.

    as an aside
    i just looked up Langford on Wiki and found this which made me chuckle
    'Langford received a fair amount of criticism in her early career, as she had been widely perceived as over-precocious. Noel Coward reportedly made the comment after seeing a play in which the young Langford appeared, and in which a horse had also defecated on the stage, "If they had shoved the child's head up the horse's arse they would have solved two problems at once." Langford herself told interviewer Michael Parkinson on his television chat show that Coward had said the best way to improve the play was to "cut the second half and the child's throat!"'

    Which is a relief. I thought you people just had some weird fixation with ginger Doctors!

    (It's also a little weird, because I know a redhead who reminds me and my friends of David Tennant. His name is Leigh, and he works for Top Shelf.)

    Yeah, the "ginger" thing is a running gag. Not only did 10 complain he wasn't a ginger, but I recall 11 echoing it. "STILL not ginger! Dammit!"

    The Eccleston series (where the show was relaunched in 2005) is a good starting point if you want to take a look around.

    If I had known all that I would have thrown in red hair, although he would have clashed with Daphne. I'm afraid I haven't watched the relaunch and like most yanks my age didn't grow up on it but found it in college on PBS when buying beer was more important than cable. The beer thing is probably why my recall of the shows is a little fuzzy, it came on after the bars closed at 2 am.

    First and foremost, this is an art thread. I've said it before (and it's starsuperion's first post ever, and I'm in a good mood, so I don't mind too much repeating myself): if you can't get your point at least 90% across with just your art, go back and work on it a little longer. And, yeah, I get it: Doctor Who is gonna make folks a little fanwankier than usual with pointing out sources and homages -- that's just the nature of the beast. But try to rein it in, yeah?

    Ultimately, the whys and wherefores are far better suited to one of the artist/technique threads. Here, we wanna see results, not research; art, not writing.

    I've always figured that the thirteenth incarnation of the doctor would need to be the sort of 'essential' doctor. Other Time Lords have control over their regeneration, and while the Doctor seems to lack this, he does tend to end up with the right personality for what he must face or whatever demons he must overcome. The thirteenth would be what makes the Doctor, THE DOCTOR. It may not be his last lifetime, but as long as he doesn't know that, a part of him must make peace with his lifetimes and I think that would spawn something like this:



    He has given up his mid-life crisis of trying to be young, but not quite given up the energy, that spark and virility that so enamors us with him and makes him so capable in action. He opts instead for a man of middling age, a balance between the grumpy old men of his youth and the seeming reversal as he grew older. He retains the twinkle in the eye, and the all-too-clever smirk on his just-so-weathered face, but with a maturity that makes him handsome without being too young or pretty. And of course, he finally gets to be ginger, though with a touch of gray.

    Variants of the outfit could include other colors than orange, and really the one or two outfits is something he could do without entirely, though sticking mostly with three-piece suits, spats and a good bit of flair. The cane isn't quite necessary, but stylish and gentlemanly and contains his most recent incarnation of his handy sonic screwdriver, which can be easily called upon when needed. (as well as a few other tricks hidden in the harmless looking stick)

    Anyways, there he is and, I must say, I can't wait to meet him.

    A mix of Mod and Teddy Boy fashion with a Reed Richards haircut because he's smart but getting on a bit.
    Any resemblance to Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips is purely coincidental.

    @starsuperion There is an artist thread that is created monthly where the information you shared would be welcome.

    It is sometimes useful to show you've done your own research and work. I use it as such because I'm inconsistent art wise.

    I'd like to think we are hat-friendly here.
