Awful People Who Got What Was Coming To Them

A scuffle ensued, wherein Alfalfa and his friend beat up Bud, who took a glass dome clock to the head, leading him to get his gun. Alfalfa grabbed the gun, which he almost got away from the guy (which is a bad-ass check in Alfalfa’s book) , and forced Bud back into a closet (check number 2), but when he pulled a switchblade (we don’t know if this is the same one he used to carve off Darla’s finger) and told Bud he was going to kill him, Bud apparently had enough and shot him. In the groin.

No doubt, Spanky got some cosmic joy out of the whole thing, because Alfalfa died of internal bleeding from a nutshot on the way to the hospital.

So, I'm reading this article on IGN. I've always felt the IGN comics crew were particularly malicious. Their reviews as well as the general level of snobbery on their comics podcast regularly display all the warnings signs that nerd elitists usually do. Their articles often imply a larger awareness or intelligence level than the creators their careers are based on observing, carrying such titles as "Preserving the Batman Film Franchise." As if they were the qualified persons to determine such things.

Anyway, this is another such article. It criticizes the general blandness of current superhero comics and calls back to an age of grand events and irrevocable consequences - a principle which, mind you, this very site often lamented and bitched about; they criticized the event rotation while praising the stories it produced.

As I read this, I couldn't help but think, "Really? Boring? Bland? That's the first I've heard. Is that a popular consensus?" In all honesty, I've loved each publisher's respective relaunch and have been disappointed by few. More to the point, I haven't even really witnessed the fruit of that tree. How can we possibly criticize and bitch about the stagnant nature of the current status quo when we're less than a half of a year into either company's plan? Should we measure each company by say...the most number of issues a top franchise has produced, Marvel has Avengers at 4 issues and DC has Green Lantern at the same. New Avengers - 4 issues. Flash - 4 Issues. Is this really an appropriate time to say, "Oh but it's soooo booooooooooriiiing."

Maybe it's the wine. Perhaps I shouldn't care what the employees in the basement of IGN put on their website. I just wanted to speak.

@texture - Human beings are actually lining up in the streets of London and holding up their babies to be 'blessed' by someone who is just another human being (albeit a human being who is ex-Hitler Youth.) It is the 21st century now isn't it?

Jeffrey Rowland is hiring via open call on his own website which I don't know I think that's neat, sort of cool. If there are any unemployed American WhiteChapelers not tied to their current zipcodes, maybe that is for you.

When the economy had the aneurysm one of the things on my mind was how stupid it was for online comics to make a business off selling tshirts, obviously no one is going to be buying tshirts when we are all training rats to perch on our shoulders and shoot at wasps with their skull-mounted mini laser cannons so we can constantly eat wasps all day for nutrition. But it looks like I was wrong about that.
