    That ad is pretty surreal when you think about the weird mix of iconography. The semiotics are just a mess.

    The funniest commercial I think I've ever seen. It involves Dolph Lundgren fighting a unicorn. There's a whole series of them. Scandinavia is weird...

    Oh, LBA:

    My dad used to be the chair of the Lake Tahoe Public Utilities Board a few years back - even for ex-military he would have so NOT approved of this.

    Regardless of how freaking awesome it may have been...

    @LBA - that kind of stunt isn't that outrageous. I've seen Royal Navy Sea Kings landing in quite deep surf before, they're built to float for a while if they crash at sea anyway, and made to fly in really, really shitty weather so touch and goes probably aren't a problem.

    Here - have a look at one from the inside:

    @Oddcult

    Sea Kings were developed for use by the US Navy originally. These were Sikorsky S 60's, the helicopters the US navy and coastguard use as rescue helicopters, so it's not like going in a bit of water on a calm lake is going to hurt them. They're built for operations in everything up to hurricane conditions. Not that it matters much; this is getting the Navy huge publicity. The pilots will be quietly un-grounded in a month or two once everybody's forgotten about this.

    @Val: that is superb. Even if it smells a bit hoaxy.
