Central Services - Forever Frozen In Time [free DL, direct link]

Mad soundclash between El-P and the late Camu Tao, contains some moments of sheer deranged genius. Shredded R&B mixes with dirty art-punk, wailing funk vocals and sly nods to hip-hop. It's like the bastard offspring of Sonic Youth, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Cee-Lo and Rick James.

 To describe my Sunday night:

The man on stage spends a few moments discussing, at unusual length, what he describes as Woody Guthrie's manly tumescence. "It's the kind of word that just sounds good when you say it into the microphone, isn't it?" There is a long pause. Nobody hears the sound technician crank up the reverb, as the artist leans in and says, plainly, "TUMESCENCE," and lets it echo out across the field.

And then launches into Ingrid Bergman.

So today I am listening to Mermaid Avenue, because I saw Billy Bragg on Sunday and he was pretty awesome.

Sex Bob-omb. Repeatedly.
Haha, totally! Rest of the soundtrack is really growing on me. Rolling Stones "Under my Thumb" is on there too. The lyrics fit with the context of the movie's story, but in my mind I figure Gideon being a pretentious hipster douche would totally blast that to make everyone think he appreciates them.

Also still hooked on this Karma to Burn song. John Garcia adds his voice to it. It's like the second coming of KYUSS

Fairly new band that mixes sludge metal and all out grind/hardcore. I´ve been trying to tell them to ditch the sludge and be all out hardcore. Iceland has been crying out for that sound for a few years now...

 @ Kernow
yes absolutely - i have the two volumes released by Trunk Records. I truly believe that the Radiophonic Workshop people are the absolute pivotal composers of the late 20th century - their impact on the minds and music of british musicians is incalculable.

@ Jonah
inspired by warren's 13th doctor remake/remodel (and being unable to draw so much as a stickman) i've been putting together some Radiophonic style incidental music - all electronic and not lasting more than a minute or so. I've done eleven of them over the last few days - it's fun. this is the only one i've uploaded so far.

 @nigredo
Just listened on soundcloud. It has a curious sound. I really didn't like it at loud volumes and found it harsh/grating, but once I turned it down to medium-low the sound gelled for me and I could just float along with it. I dig it now. I can't think of any other record I've heard where that's the case. I mean I put Flying Saucer Attack on after and I can blast it.

@ian holloway
Nice! That's the dr. who bass for sure! The high pitched whine gives me the vibe of early electronic composers like Pauline Oliveros. I think you were successful. It makes a good transition into the next track too. If you are on osx Berna is a fun and cheap way to experiment with 50's style composition. Getting into that 1950's headspace will be harder ;)

Now listening to Laurie Spiegel - Appalachian Grove

Cpt Beefheart - Ice Cream for Crow (never been a big Beffheart fan but there are a couple of albums i dig)

See, Ice Cream For Crow is the album I first heard, before even Trout Mask Replica. It really turned me on to Beefheart.

I've been listening to the new Philip Jeck, An Ark For The Listeners. It's excellent, as always. I really love how he's integrated the bass guitar. His recorded material hasn't dwelt much in the low frequencies in the past, and I really like the passages of clashing, rumbling bass work in this album.

Even though it's not a strictly music concern, Touch Records let me down with the first jewel case I've ever bough from them. Everything before now has been in a high quality digipak. It's a little sad.

 @ joe.distort - God, I love that Dillinger/Patton EP. I would very much like to hear their cover of Come to Daddy live, but I guess that's kinda unlikely.

And thanks to a few of you, I will have to go and buy the new Grinderman album now.

 Now finally getting into Elliott Smith. I have the distinct impression that I'm living in some weird mind/time/warp. Every time I hear some music that I actually enjoy, it turns out whoever made it is dead, and has been for years. Of course, I do sometimes come across something I actually like, but then find to my dismay that whatever else they've done is... how shall I put this diplomatically... well, it's shite.

A bit old and I'm sure it's been posted before, but DJ Fresh's latest song Gold Dust is pretty damn good, and boy is it well shot by Ben Newman. Even if you're not into Dubstep it's a fine tune, and better yet, he's still alive.

---

As of this posting I'm sure he's keeled over and died just to spite me.

 Awesome new lo-fi electronica / d&b / glitch album by Gwylo, co-founder of the excellent Leeds-based techno / electro label Dead Channel. Moody, intelligent, and deep - great music to work to. Go download Binary Fur for free.
EDIT - Wow, it actually goes a bit dayglo rave mental in several places... maybe not such a great work record then... but awesome nonetheless.
