    Evergreen Terrace released an album a few years back called Writer's Block which was all hardcore style covers. The best tracks were:

    Josh -- Me First and the Gimme Gimme's not only have the best name for a cover band, but are also one of my favorite bands.

    Other ones I thought of today: (All of which are completely different from each other)
    Hardcore/metal version of Ice Ice Baby
    Trust me, it's worth listening to.

    I'm kind of surprised the Johnny Cash version of "Hurt" didn't show up on here sooner.

    I love Reznor's comments after seeing it:
    I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. [I felt like] I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore… It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure


    I'm not sure if it exemplifies or transcends what a cover is.

    Manchester Uni, 1984, I think. There's also a Purple Haze/Hey Joe medley. I've got them all on various dodgy audio cassette bootlegs bought in the late 80s.

    The guy I formed my first band with had a bootleg stall and used to go to London weekly to source more, I've got hundreds of old, dodgy cassettes, of various quality. The Hey Joe/Purple Haze medley is pretty cool as well, loved that kind of shredded guitar sound and spent hours trying to emulate it... ha.

    @Warped Savant: Just to take "Too Cold" to the next level, it should be clarified that the singer of that rap metal band is, in fact, Vanilla Ice himself. It was meant as his "comeback."
