The only problem with the show is that I would love to show that episode to people and say "SEE?! DO YOU SEE WHY I LOVE THIS SHOW?!" and they would never understand because it would make no sense to someone who had never seen The Venture Brothers before. I feel like there's some serious payoff coming up, (not that there wasn't tonight.)
Neil, I agree, the rich backstories and the way the characters have been built up over the seasons play a huge part in why the show is so awesome, but it also makes it difficult to introduce a new viewer to the show. My sister said as much when she was hanging out one night and caught an episode during season 2. She could see why I was so into it, but felt a little lost herself as she noticed that a lot of the awesomeness hinged on being familiar with prior events in the series.
But man, if you've been following Venture Brothers since the beginning, it just continues to reward you every step of the way.
Billy and Mr. White as Eros and Thanatos... Dr. Girlfriend's cheer routine for 21... Dr. Venture emerging and taking control of the situation with the heart monitor still dragging behind him... the whole 16th birthday story... may this show never lose its edge and wit
That was excellent. Jackson and Doc were doing five voices each! New record? I don't keep track of that sorta thing -__-
Honestly getting kinda bored of Hatred. that voice is starting to get grating. But yeah, all of this seasons scripts have been so sharp. Jackson and Doc are really making every script count and write the show as if each season will be their last.
Agreed. 21 has always been a favorite of mine, it's great to see him become such a badass. When I first saw him in action after his intense training following 24's death, I thought "I bet he could take Brock now". But as we've seen, Brock is NEVER to be underestimated.
Brock has been built up so much at this point, I don't think anyone could top him in battle. If they did it would be like someone knocking out Galactus with a single punch. It was just impressive to see 21 keep up with him for a little bit.
As for the episode... fuck it was another amazing episode. So much character stuff with some humor in there that made me have to pause it to hear the dialog. I do wonder has Rusty's super ego been awoken a bit? Is there a chance we will see Rusty evolve even slightly? Be nice to see him evolve a bit as every other character has grown in many ways.
Yeah. Him walking out and taking charge of the fire-ant situation and the birthday story were probably the most 'adult' we've seen Rusty be in a long while.
The reveal that the various deaths of Hank and Dean haunt him is also a pretty juicy piece of character building disguised as kind of a brilliant joke. That and the bit a few episodes ago when Hank and Sgt. Hatred are pretending to torture him and he reveals that Hank is actually his favourite because he reminds him of himself, and I'd say we've actually seen a lot of growth from Rusty this season. Which is not to say he isn't still a petty selfish jackass, as evidenced by 'Rusty: The Musical.'
Yeah, I agree. Brock is a worldly guy so I think he had the definitive take on the "Rusty Venture"... I'm going to have to re-watch this episode pronto. [VB is the just about the only TV show I will shell out $$ for the DVD's...]
I screamed into my pillow so much. After it ended I was finally able to exhale. Everyone got their own payoff and moment of closure for the most part. I almost thought 21 would've killed the moppets for messing with his list. Monarch will always be petty and in it for the thrill of arching, haha.
