I am posting this with Warren’s permission. My name is Felix Smith and I am doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at Central Michigan University. My dissertation is about sexual interest and behavior and how it relates to personality.
I am asking for any adult (over 18) who is willing to complete an anonymous and confidential online survey. I am investigating how common various sexual behaviors are and how they relate to a variety personality characteristics such as extroversion and openness to new experiences and legal history. One reason I am conducting this research is that currently we don’t know how common presumed unusual sexual activities are. Many assumptions are made about sexual behaviors and we need better data to evaluate those assumptions.
If you complete the survey you will receive feedback regarding your personality characteristics.
All data gathered is confidential and responses to items are anonymous. No tracking data is gathered. I appreciate that sex is a sensitive subject and I am taking steps to prevent linking anyone’s answers to them.
Interesting survey. I haven't seen data combinations like that before. However I'm emailing you some feedback on the questions themselves as I feel several were unclear or inconsistent. :)
That question is from an older measure, and some of the language is a little hokey.
As with most psychometric measures the intention is to use a bunch of bit of not-particularly-good data (the individual items) to make better data (the average of those responses, compared to norms). Odd sounding questions are supposed to shake out in the aggregation. A lot of the items on that scale (which is the sensation seeking scale) are deliberately extreme because the actual individual items don't matter that much, but if someone answers the same way across a bunch extreme items, it does mean something about that person.
I promise, no offense is intended against drinkers or non-drinkers.
