    The American just landed in the second run Portland beer theatres.



    It's a very understated (although dark), beautifully shot film. (the trailer's a bit misleading, the final cut paces things a little different). Reminded me a bit of early John le Carré genre writing, although crime oriented rather than espionage. Worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre, and I'd be curious what people here thought of it.

    I quite liked it. I really enjoyed seeing Mr Clooney actually Act. There was no gimmick, there were no smooth lines to deliver. His face, while betraying hardly any emotion, said a lot. And that's pretty important for a film that has basically no dialogue.

    I felt the pacing was really even until the build-up at the end, which seemed unexpected. However, after considering it, it was definitely time for the climax.
