Really enjoying the new album from The Corin Tucker Band. Great to have her back (Sleater-Kinney is still one of my all time favorite bands).

Also discovered this great new band called Cusses via Shuffler.fm. They only have a couple of songs out but I highly recommend "Custody": http://www.myspace.com/cussesmusic

Stockhausen's Mantra performed by the Pestova/Meyer piano duo.

(Yes, I'm plugging my friend's work, but only because it is genuinely awesome and because it's honestly what I'm playing right now.
Seriously. I saw them perform it live about 2 years ago, and was decidedly excited about it. I'd been eagerly awaiting the cd release from that moment until recently when I finally got my hands on a copy.)

The project page offers some information including how to build your own controllers or a download of the drivers and the performance patch if you're into that sort of thing.

@Allana, Timbo, I'm kind of digging the Menomena name. It's more of a problem when I try and tell people to listen to that band and they ask me to repeat their name. More than twice. And @Allana, I actually really love some of the lyrics on this album. Matter of taste I suppose?

I can't stop listening to Made Out of Babies. It's really starting to be a problem. I'm super un-balanced sounding now. Whoops!

I got Killing Joke's Absolute Dissent yesterday and it's a storming album!
It came with an additional disc; Absolute Respect, a collection of other bands covering KJ tracks. It features a wonderful cover of Pssyche by Nouvelle Vague, and a remix of Democracy by NIN that doesn’t seem to contain a single note or sound from the original song, so I’m a bit confused as to how it’s a remix, or a cover- it is rather good though.
I think Killing Joke have aged particularly well. Jaz's voice has become increasingly inhuman with each album. It’s good that the original line-up is back together, just a shame that Paul Raven had to die before it happened.
Sorry, that makes it sound like they had him killed him killed. They didn’t.
They did record a tribute to him in The Raven King though, which is very moving, if you’re me. :)
If you’ve ever liked Killing Joke, get this album, you won’t be disappointed.
If you’ve never liked Killing Joke I can only assume that you haven’t heard them,
or that there is something wrong with you. :)

This week has been all about Sneaker Pimps, /Becoming X/.

With some old-school Chemical Bros, other similar stuff from '91-95 thrown in.

Maybe I'm just trying to relive the early, heady days of the Clinton administration. "Smack My Bitch Up" may sneak its way in, too.
Because I really, really wish it was the early days of the 90's again. with the Long Boom in front of us, and Reagan behind us.

@Allana & Dorkmuffin - I'm listening to Menomena's Myspace offerings on my laptop and can't make out the lyrics so well (partly cos I've got one ear on the incoming results of the canadian mayoral elections) but I quite like it so far. And I note they;re at my favourite music venue on Dec 4th when I should be back in the Land of the Grand Crapoalition so maybe I'll go check it out.
Also been listening to The Jezebels, out of kangaroo country, who are down at the Horseshoe Tavern tomorrow with Nomadic Sound Division so I'm definitely going to make an effort to go to that.

@ ales_kot - Slint are just absolutely superb, the finest of proto-grunge / mathrock bands. Very few heirs to that throne worthy of mention, but Spiderland just hasn't dated at all.

Cougar fill a similar spot in my heart, but they're strictly non-vocal, and have electronic influences.
