Inspired to revive this by Simon Reynolds' current embloggery.

This is a thread where I am going to post videos of old musics I find on the webs that appeal to me, probably because they're out of the ark and I remember them from when I was young and had hair.

No-one else may post videos or links to this thread. This is for me. Commenting is encouraged, but only I get to post videos in this thread. No copycat threads, please.

Also, I was thinking about this today. Or, at least, about the summer it partly defines for me. 18, living with a girl for the first time -- for most of each week, going back "home" for a few days each week because it was closer to my job, which was managing a pub that was being run down by the landlord. It was a proper old spit-and-sawdust pub in the middle of nowhere. Six months later, it was a hole in the ground, and six months after that it was shiny plastic Aunt Fanny's Restaurant And Grill (or something similar). A lot of time on my own in an empty pub (or almost empty - sometimes there were illegal immigrants living upstairs, being staged for jobs), playing this on the tape deck because it reminded me of her. And then having to change the tape to some yellowed played-smooth rock compilation tape favoured by the timewarped locals.

Shit fan video, but good audio quality.

Now that really illustrates the power of music. I'd imagine you can remember the smell and weather of the day, right?

Sometimes this must be done to you. For your own good.

This is a test, right? I mean, unless Warren was the puppeteer...
I thought only I posted videos like that.

Just listening to that Kate Bush song. Powerful stuff.

Can imagine an 18 yo Warren listening to this and looking out of a window into the distance as the rain pours down....

As for the Cuban Boys... i do remember that song and i shit on them from a great height... right into their eyes. It's all they deserve.

    @ Warren

Bloody hell that's a blinder of a track. I'm sure I have that LP knocking about somewhere.

    Also slightly Xmassy.

Broadcast were never a band i actively sought out but instead were one of those bands that were an unexpected pleasure to hear everytime they did appear on a hi-fi somewhere.
sad times - excellent choice of song.

    @Ian

i was thinking about his new album, but have read some pretty unfavourable reviews of it. This on the other hand was lovely...

...wait, did I see the Cuban Boys up there? Holy shit I owned that single then set fire to it a few years later, along with Alice Deejay's Better Off Alone.

Personally I think the Cuban Boys deserve kudos for getting a song featuring the phrase "Corn!! Rich! Luscious! Nauseating Corn!!" into the charts.
