Hi i'm Kevin, i live in Paris and i'm 31. I read Comics since i'm a kid and practicaly learn to read with Asterix, Gaston Lagaffe and some others great figures of the French comics.
I started to be interested in American comics in the mid 90's entering this world with Frank Miller's Sin City and Alan Moore's From Hell and V pour vendetta. I've never had the urge to collect an entire character stories, i'd rather focus on the writer name. I discovered so many of them now and i hardly can find room to put my books, collecting comics in french is a bit odd because i'm so often in a gap with english readers. And when i'm extatic about something i just had, many of you have already read it for years.
For exemple i have read the last issue of transmetropolitan in march of this year, it's only at this time that Tranmet has been availlable entirely in french. The first issue in french has been published in late 1998, nothing else came out until 2007 and then it took three years to conclude. The price is often expansive too, getting the complete transmetropolitan serie in french worth 174€, it means 147 pounds or 232 dollars at the current conversion rate.
The same thing for other famous series, Sandman is finished here since april of 2009, it changed three times of publisher and it took 12 long years to be concluded from the first attempt of publication by a little editor who disapeared, until the last tpb.
I can't imagine how much time i'll have to wait to get the whole Cerebus serie, the first book just came out this summer and the editor is a talented one but very small and weak in term of money.
You english speaking people are lucky bastards, you have cheap edition in real time. The only advantage i can rely on is that i have a more diversified panel of choice in the worldwide comics industry than you because i can read all the french comics obviously but many manga and asiatic comics too because a big amount of the japanese production is translated in french so far. Well neverheless i would like to have the complete vertigo collection availlable instead of the tiny part we can buy here.
Maybe you wonder why i bitch about it and don't purchase my books in english. Well i admit that is a possibility but books are also a social matter to me and in france the people who are able to read and enjoy some comics or novel in english are very rare. If i had a collection of comics in english i would not be able to lend my books and to talk about it with my friends so i mostly collect them in french.
Well apart from that, i work in a office from 9am to 5 pm, i can listen to wathever i like during my boring work and i listen to various podcast and streaming radio in addition to browsing the internet, that way i can learn many things even if i'm doing a stupid job (it consist in repeating the same process related to the press and advertising all day long on a computer). The job is boring and stupid and pays minimum wage but at least i don't have anybody who mess with me (i hate hierarchy) and don't have to think about or take more time for my work than it is necessary.
I'm in love with a tremendous girl for 9 years now and got many friends that'll like to see more often. But i'm a lazy ass and many of them lives at 200 kilometers in my native city in normandy.
I don't know if i'll be around here for a long time or if i'll write a lot here (i've never wrote in english on a regular basis) but i do appreciate to reading you all, the links you find in the "around the net" topics are pretty amazing.

I'm an American writer (St. Pete, Florida) who got into comics and graphic novels ass-backwards through films and genre lit, the same way I got into punk rock through AC/DC and Cheap Trick. A friend lent me Crooked Little Vein, and it really helped reinforce my faith in the idea that dark, funny and absurd could co-exist and that some people might actually want to read such a combination.
Also, anything I try to draw ends up looking like either a really bad Celtic tattoo or the sort of dude-with-mohawk-and-angular-shades doodle that might have appeared in your notebook in 1986.

As much as I would have enjoyed contemporary comics growing up, the town where I'm from had zero comic bookstores, so most of what I know about my favorite characters comes from the Internet, syndicated cartoons, and hand-me-down comics from when my mom was a kid. At least I recognized Cain, Abel, and their Houses when I finally got my hands on some Sandman in the 2000s. I guess I'm sort of in the same boat as Karibou, but not as angry.
I pay my bills by writing articles for newspaper supplements. The rest of the time, I'm commuting; living without a car, in a city this size, and where pedestrians are not a priority mean that I'm in a long-distance relationship with everyone else I know.
This is my most recent picture. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware it was being taken, so no eye contact. Plenty of grilled chikkin intestine from the street market, though.

My name is Amy, I've been a fan of Warren's since I got my grubby teenage fingers on Transmetropolitan back in 1999. My only true claims to fame have been a bit part in the Broadway release of Quadrophenia, having my name in the credits of World of Warcraft, and inspiring a forum member at another site into immortalizing my alias on UrbanDictionary.com (the latter probably being my proudest achievement). I'm an avid artist, albeit it a hopeless starving one in the cold wet wilds of Seattle where I have to engage in Mortal Kombat with every damned hipster within a 5-mile radius of an art supply store just to get some good Microns these days. I'm usually wary of artist/author-run forums like this due to a very bad experience I had once with Mark Z. Danielewski over at Houseofleaves.com. My memory has suppressed most of the details from the sheer trauma of the event, but I'm fairly sure it involved my grandmother and some ornery hamsters. Things are....weird there. However after some lurking I see some intelligent, passionate people that post here regularly; wonderful artists, authors and comic geeks like myself...and that makes me a very happy taco. I hope to see all of you more often. :)
