I don't think there's been a recent question like this (well, outside of Warren's One App to Rule Them All post), but pull the lever if this is redundant. I'm also prefacing this by saying this isn't one of those "Hey everyone, post your Twitter account!" threads.

First, some background:

I follow a fair amount of people on Twitter (around 200) and for a while, I used TweetDeck to keep them grouped nicely, so I could see what was going on in a particular bit of internet consciousness. Writers, Whitechaplers, comics folk, musicians, etc. It used to be that when you clicked off the "Mark as Read" button, that would take effect across all your groups, so you could clear your ungrouped column--the default is something like "My Friends" in TweetDeck--of things you've already read in another column/group, thus simplifying and prioritizing your Twitter feed. When TweetDeck switched to using Twitter Lists, that functionality broke. Twitter is now a murky mess of information that takes significantly more time than it used to for me.

My question, Whitechapel, is "Is there a Twitter app that replicates that functionality?" Otherwise I might as well just use the web interface, which is clunky for two-way communication. Or, I suppose, I could just pare down the number of people I follow, but that's just silly.

Furthermore, if there is a way to do this in TweetDeck, what the hell is it?

@kelvin - I'm being overly picky for wanting a program to work the way it used to? Sorry, you're right, I'll just stop requesting that developers quit breaking their own programs. *rolls eyes*

@SilentObjector - I can't seem to find a spot on TweetDeck's website where I can download older versions, and they're extremely pushy about auto-updating. To the point that I think they intentionally broke several previous versions, by breaking their API implementation or something, so people had to update.

@Vaehling - That's a pretty good approximation, and it's sort of something their users have been asking about for quite a while (a dedicated "ungrouped" column). But it's still not the same function, and it seems like a bunch of extra work for the end user to approximate something the program used to do automatically.

I'll probably just have to keep looking, but as it is I think I'll end up being disappointed. Sigh.
