I was kinda/sorta aware of Reggie Watts, but mostly from his musicianship. Then someone laid this on me...

So who do you turn to when you need a laugh these days?

A solid go-to is always David Cross. Here's a bit from his latest album BIGGER AND BLACKERER:

    Morgan Murphy.

It stuns me that some people have yet to discover swanky, snazzy zoot-suit daily observational comedy from Paul F. Tompkins.

Jackie Kashian is a friend of mine and travels around A LOT because you have to if you're a comic. This video was created by someone else based on a track from her CD "It's never going to be Bread." Thanks for the chance to pimp her!

I turn to her for an easy laugh and good memories. She doesn't do cutting edge so much as plop down beside you over coffee and tell you stories that you'll be laughing about for weeks.

I first heard Kumail Nanjiani on This American Life (the "new drug called Cheese bit") I really like his writing (also see the "Benjamin Button" bit) from the tiny clips I've seen. He's gotten written up in the NY Times and he's made a few television appearances, but he doesn't seem like a household name yet.

I love Reggie, David Cross, Morgan Murphy and Paul F. Tompkins certainly. If you are really interested in comedy you must listen to Marc Maron's WTF Podcast.
Patton Oswalt, Louis CK, and Doug Stanhope made life a bit more livable in 2010. If you haven't seen Louis' show on FX yet, stop what you are doing and immediately rectify that.
Everyone should be reading Rob Delaney's Twitter feed also nowadays.

celan is absolutely right, the WTF Podcast is great and Jackie Kashian was on there the other day, so there's a nice little tie-up.

Kyle Kinane is my favourite American comedian right now. Patton Oswalt's a big fan of his.

'New' is probably a funny term since these people work for years before they are known outside their own town,

    Hannibal Buress is great:

    Hannibal Buress Live at Comix

(as seen in some episodes of Louie)
