    Warren--I watched a documentary recently about the moon landing, and finally came up with a question worthy of this opportunity: While you mused about the "What if's" if the space race had been different post-WWII with MINISTRY IN SPACE, the documentary had me wanting to ask you this:

    What are a few things you think may have been different, had it been the Soviet Union that made it to a moon landing before the U.S., aside from a hammer and sickle flag being planted on the surface? Something tells me that you've pondered this before, and I'm interested in any thoughts.

    And as always, thank you for the temporary insanity that always seems to hit you at the end of the year to allow this opportunity for all of us.

    I don't believe it could ever have happened. Korolev was sidelined for too long, and then died too soon, while scumfucks like Chelomei buggered up everything they touched. For Russia to have landed on the moon first, Chelomei would have had to die around 1959. And even then... I don't know that Korolev's approach would have scaled up for translunar flight in the way von Braun's did. And Korolev was sick throughout the 60s, and Mishin just wasn't strong enough to support or protect him in the way that he needed. I think most historical tracks probably lead to the N-1 blowing up on the pad.

    I love that Warren knows more about the history of space travel than 99% of the rocket guys I hang with.

    Hell . . . any chance of a documentary comic along those lines? Like a highly specialized version of Gonick's cartoon history of ___ books? Something stripped of the manichean cold war crap that colors the US whig history version?

    BTW, how much of CAPTAIN SWING happened to be inspired by Abney Park? And is there a chance that Abney Park could be talked into doing a soundtrack album inspired by the comic?
