    @Rachael -- did you ever have the problem that Steve mentions? Mine was yesterday (20th) and I've never had one present given as both. (That being said, I never received presents from aunts, uncles, or cousins for either holiday).

    @Steve -- At least for the people that do get you something they can wait until all of the great Boxing Day sales. (Dec 26th sales for those that are trying to figure out what Boxing Day is.)

    True. I have encountered the one present thing over the years. Still get to basically celebrate with different people from the solstice to new year so no great shales ;)

    Yes. I do always get one present.

    However, this year, especially since I'm destined to still be ill by then, and have had little time to really enjoy the Christmas season since I've been ill for most of the month, I've decided to have a RACHAEL'S CHRISTMAS EVE HOBBIT BIRTHDAY in MARCH party. I was born three months premature, so, if i have my birthday on the date it SHOULD be, I'll be able to avoid the holiday fatigue. Also, at this point, as weird as the weather is, it'll probably be more likely to have a white Christmas Eve in March than it will in December.

    I'll decorate for Christmas, make cookies, listen Christmas music, and invite people over for spiked Eggnog, and give everyone silly presents.

    I prefer the singular present. In theory, it's bigger and nicer and not so immediately garbageable.
    (In practice, I am such a ridiculously bad gift-getter that nobody bothers anymore. Which is how I like it, because nobody has ever been able to shop for me.)

    hard to believe that this thread has hit 70 pages! There is some amazing stuff in here, I can only imagine the next year will be even better.
