I lost my watch. I formally asked the fairies to find it for me. I found another watch which seems to have started working again. Weird. :)

Many family New Year's superstitions got ignored this year as I was in a different hemisphere for the holiday, but they saved me some bean soup, and because I didn't see the weather here for the first 3 days of the year - it's all going to be a surprise. Today, I write my annual letter to myself and read last year's missive.

Only - when the hell did it get to Friday? Really.

I've still got two comic writing projects I'm trying to get banged out, I have taken a third upon myself, and I'm fucking around with a second serial for Weaponizer.

So I have that going for me, which is nice.

@WaxPoetic: My wife and I forgot to bury our cash on New Year's Eve, but I hoped eating some collard greens and black-eyed peas would appeal to the genii loci enough to throw some fat lucre our way. We shall see.

I have ALWAYS wanted the power to build things with my mind, ever since I was 9. In my dreams, and in my imagination, I do. Strangely enough imagining things like that is the only way I can slow down my hyperdrive speed brain enough to get to sleep at night.

Looking forward to playing two rocknroll shows this weekend. From the start of it, it looks like 2011 is going a fucking busy year for The Secretions (my band). We've got four shows this month, six the next, and in April we're going to Italy for our first ever Tour In A Different Country. Seems like a proper celebration for our 20th year of existence, so I'm definitely looking forward to 2011. Hopefully it's looking bright for everyone else here too.

actually, feels a little odd to think of it in terms of an end to book 5. always strange to think in those terms when reading it weekly. but a neat, nice end, when given some thought.

as for me. i got made redundant for christmas. had 1st interview day before that came into effect. had 2nd interview day after would have normally started back at work. despite weak points, i got the job. having had issues resulting from redundancy in past, its very good news to be able to walk into a new job so easily.

I have no trouble building things in my mind, it's the getting them out into reality that's the problem.

Another excellent episode, i find Mr Duffield's artwork deeply impressive.

Heh. Right on. Lovely work, Paul, so much movement as the lumber and nails fly about!

I do wonder how, post the end of the world, one gets lumber and nails. Even this many years after the cataclysm I'd figure any remaining home improvement stores would have been long emptied. Turning trees into lumber isn't entirely straightforward, especially if one doesn't have things like lathes and planers and such. To say nothing of creating screws. Even if they were removed from older material, that would render a lot of screws useless. That's not to say Caz doesn't have a smelting factory around somewhere, only that I started wondering where she put it.

One week into '11 and I'm ever as panicked about my choices for my life's direction, I'm more determined to push ahead and I'm also throwing myself ever more stupidbullshit to undermine myself. E.g. I spent most of the day in bed today feeling ill when a lot of the crappy feeling came from being reckless last night, drinking, eating terrible food and staying up till dawn. So... more of the same? Well, as long as it's not being numb to the passing of time, that's already a step up for me.

You know it's interesting, this book opened up a lot more questions than it answered, and there are still plenty of unresolved issues, and yet -- it's a satisfying chunk of story. That is, of course, provided we get to have more. Oh Warren, you evil genius, you.

For me this year started off with a quiet celebration at home with family, then putting my elder son on an Amtrak train to go visit his mum (we are boycotting the airlines until TSA learns to behave itself), and then launching my new web-comic (which I won't plug here because I've had ample opportunity to mention it elsewhere in this forum). So I guess the mood here is quiet hopefulness, that this year things will finally turn around for me money-wise and career-wise. In the mean time, I still keep a bottle of either Scotch or Irish whiskey on my desk in case of emergencies.

Thought this was a cool installment, where not a lot of plot stuff happens but we see the characters react to their upgrade in a variety of different ways. Cool stuff as always and Mr. Duffield is fucking ace on this.
