Shit, man. As a self-proclaimed fan boy, that's a difficult question. I'd probably say From Her to Eternity (It's also my wife's favorite, if you're curious), as there's not a song on it that I even remotely dislike. Of course, I have to go with the general consensus and say Mercy Seat is his best song, if not The Best Song Ever.

I'm also a huge fan of the first few songs on Tender Prey and like the rest of the album ok in general, love Henry's Dream, both Grinderman albums, and regularly listen to all the others I have as well, which is about 3/4 of them.

Difficult question... Older albums are often associated with old memories, this makes things harder to evaluate.

I think for me it'll depend on my mood. Could be Tender Prey if I'm feeling nostalgic, or Dig Lazarus Dig if I'm more in the present :).
If I had to pick just one It'd be certainly be Dig Lazarus Dig. Which kind of surprises me when I think about it.

I haven't listened to Henry's Dream and Let Love In in a long time though. My choice could be different then, I have really good memories of these two.
And my least favourite album is certainly No More Shall We Part. Not really bad, just annoying (and I love The Good Son, though).

As for favourite song, certainly The Mercy Seat. The Weeping Song would be a close second though...

I love how much love Henry's Dream is getting despite it being Nick's least favorite album. (Sure shows him, eh?) As soon as I heard "Papa Won't Leave You Henry" (which started out as a lullaby to his kid), I knew the man was mistaken.

It's my understanding, from reading the liner notes, that he basically feels it was overproduced - he was going for something more raw and visceral - a sound he'd heard from street musicians in Rio. Mute wanted him to use an actual producer after the success of "The Good Son", so he brought one in, and things didn't go quite as planned, and he was disappointed in the final result.

Anyway, in my professional opinion as a guy who works at a hotel, Nick Cave is the defining musician of the last 30 years - his work has swung back and forth through different stylistic extremes (look at some of the more subdued stuff vs anything off a Birthday Party album), and yet it never ceases to be Nick Cave's music. I mean, when O Children comes on in Harry Potter, you don't stop and think "Wait...is this...?" It's immediately recognizable - there's something unique about his music. Or maybe I'm just full of crap. I have no idea.
