The best way to start these things is to get everyone saying hello. So please introduce yourselves in this thread, adding a photo if you've got one (trust me -- the web works much better when people see that there are real people on the other end of a post).

Obviously, if you've said hello in previous Introduction threads, there's no need to do it again.

We don't insist on real names here. I find it helps, but, frankly, if you want to be a completely fictional invention of yourself, go right ahead. Hell, I've even known people who have started out fictional and then become their own invention.

Hi, I don't *think* I've done this before here. My name is Tom, from the Chicago suburbs. I also lurk around, and occasionally post something. Here's me skating in the summer, when things are WARM (oh please, make it soon.)

I've finally begun reading FA and I'm on episode 45. Great to be able to read it in big chunks. I think the story is just amazingly well written, it keeps pulling you in. And there just seems to be layer after layer. And I love post-apocalyptic/disaster stories, anyway. Great stuff.

I enjoy gaming, reading loads of novels, graphic and otherwise, and writing cryptically on message boards.

I've been a fan of Warren's ever since one of his stints on HELLBLAZER. Since then I've gone back and read a lot more of his stuff, including TRANSMETROPOLITAN and NEWUNIVERSAL, and I'm glad to count myself as a fan.

Hello, everyone. I'm Paul Taylor. No, I am not the Paul Taylor who writes and draws the very excellent Wapsi Square a mere 80 miles to my west. Nor am I the modern dance choreographer, nor the saxophonist, the athlete, the murderer, or the moving company. I'm the Paul Taylor who turns forty years old today and will likely die quite anonymously like tens of thousands of other Paul Taylors, my body becoming a petrified plank in the railroad track of history, carrying the train of humanity to the station where future generations can finally live as virtual immortals and never perish unlike the poor souls who have gone before. You're welcome [spoiled brats].

I posted to Ye Olde Warren Ellis Forum under the handle "Maxie Zeus," and I started the WEF Facebook group that was the source of some comedy for a couple of weeks. I still have my Artbomb and Engine t-shirts, so I'm what you'd call a veteran. Hell if my senior brain can recall what my account here used to be called before my cookies got cleared, so: starting over, fresh start, and all that other stuff people have been telling me today before I punch them in the teeth. Go have a fresh start with your orthodontist, prick.

All that is to say that I'm currently searching for a pen name. I use pj.Taylor as a placeholder.

I'm a photographer of modest abilities. My Flickr is here, and I put my own favorite pieces here. Otherwise, I was kicked out of art college after six years for having "no discernible talent," and I have thus spent the last fourteen years establishing a career getting the potholes filled. As I say to the high school students I mentor, dreams are for suckers.

Thank you. I should have mentioned that: "I write opening paragraphs like a motherfucker." A hundred projects begun, none completed. Dozens of sketchbooks with only three pages filled in, stacks of two-page scripts tossed among the dog-eared copies of The War of Art by Steven Pressfield and True Facts by Larry Young.

My perspective on comics comes mainly from the retail end. Among many of the careers I've had, both brief and chronic — stand-up comedian, credit card telemarketer, freelance women's footwear designer, boudoir photographer, perpetual college student — I managed one of your local comics stores on Cape Cod during that entertaining time in history referred to as the "Boom and Bust." Almost exactly, in fact: one of my very first decisions was estimating how many copies of Youngblood #1 to order, and one of my final decisions was estimating how many white-polybagged copies of Superman #500 would need to be burnt to heat a small retail shop. It turns out burning the polybags are toxic, and X-Men #1 was better suited for heating because of the extra pages in the fold-out cover.

[Yes, youngster, no need to remove your white ear buds… you did hear me correctly. Back in the days of the Pilgrims, a funny-looking/smelling man in a brick-and-mortar establishment would have to simply guess how many rubes would show up in two months' time and purchase a comic book there because it had its logo printed in gold ink, and weigh that against the increasing improbability that the issue in question would show up late or at all. As opposed to today, where you take your AOL disks and your telephone or whatever and go and pull them off of DC++ by the gigglebits, vaguely aware that something you enjoy must, by definition, have some kind of "value."]

To this day, I still say a little prayer for Richard Garfield for inventing "Magic: The Gathering" and keeping us all in business until we could find real jobs.

I've worked in the comics industry for over ten years as a writer, letterer, publisher, editor, and production manager. I used to publish a variety of books through my imprint, Cyberosia, won a few awards, lettered High Moon, Box 13, Cowboys & Aliens, and a few others. I've written a lot of comics, including Nightfall, Atlantis Rising--both in development at Aurora Pictures and Dreamworks respectively--and my current comics projects can be found here.

I'm called a "Man of Comics," since I do have the uncanny ability to insert staples into my spine and place variant covers over my content.

I'm Robyn.

I'm a professional horse trainer and horseback riding coach. I've done about a year and a half of University for English before I realized that I hated school and classrooms and couldn't survive another year. I enjoy shooting just about anything - my dad's .22, my traditional bow and arrows, pellet gun etc., and I ride horses competitively at the National and International levels.
To make up for my lack of Nerdiness (yes, I see a lack of it as a BAD thing), I am a huge English geek - anything to do with grammar, evolution of words, or vocabulary is awesome in my books. I also am in love with Magic: The Gathering, and have 2 complete decks, plus 3 decks in progress, though no deck is truly finished. When I get the time, I spend it all playing MMORPGS such as Diablo 2 (yes, I still like it) and Ragnarok Online.

Hi, I'm Pete. New here; joined 'cause of a tweet of Mr Ellis'. I live in Manchester in what the police call a hotbed of crime, but it's alright really. I get to see bands and such. I like writing, but if pressed on my occupation I'll usually answer "just some shitty office stuff at XXXXXXX" or "unemployed", depending when in recent history I'm being asked. My ideal career would be some sort of hipster viking solving mysteries in a muscle car, but it never comes up in a jobsearch so I decided I'd give writing a go. I see there's a lot of other people like that about here, though much more successful than me.

Not been at it long. Interested in what others might think. I've only really had good feedback so far, which naturally I find suspicious. It's here if anyone's interested: peteford.org.

I'm a full time cartoonist operating out of Periscope Studio in Portland, OR. In fact, it was a couple of my studiomates who suggested I might have fun on this forum, which is why I just joined up! I draw a webcomic as a warm-up to my regular drawing, so it's not in my usual style. I have another job which would not look kindly on the idea that I regularly make wiener jokes on the internet, so this is like my alter-ego. Hey, I'm Benjamin Read. I’m a publisher, writer and filmmaker.

I publish books at Pook Press. A small imprint that ‘celebrates the great Golden Age of Illustration in children’s literature’. I’ve stepped back to Managing Editor, or Honoured Founder or something these days, but it’s still my baby.

I make films with my partner-in-crime, Luke Massey. We have an independent feature called WARHOUSE in post-production.

Yes, it's true, I am a man called Kay. I live in Marrckville, Sydney, with my wife and three small children. I am never properly happy unless I am out of my depth.

I was warned in high school that if I tried to do everything I wanted to do that I would fail because it would cumulatively take too long. I'm 39 and still fighting that assessment.

I make visual art, music, film and I write fiction. I can't dance attractively, juggle, act or write good poetry, and my welding's pretty average too. So far in 2011 I have built an infrared video camera out of junk, written and directed a short post-apocalypse film and shot it on said camera, scored said film and rehearsed up a three piece band to play the score live at the screening (cello, shortwave radio and 44 gallon drum... I'll be playing the drum, though I have never played percussion before) set up a new film festival where all sound is made live in order to have a vehicle for said film, and (despite having failed sculpture at art school and told by a lecturer that I am "gloriously talent-free") have been accepted into a major sculpture show on the strength of a drawing that I think looks a lot like a penis.

Now I just have to amass 44 quarter-vent car windows by tomorrow, figure out how to edit film on Friday and learn how to weld before Monday. Oh, and do all that stuff with flyers and radio interviews that running a film festival seems to involve, none of which I have ever done before. I'm really quite content for once. This is actually fun. I'm so tired I can't see my toes.

Warren Ellis is on the very short list of writers that I trust. He would probably count that as a fatal mistake, which is part of why I trust him. I have been reading his work on paper for a lot of years, FA for a lot of months, and this forum for a lot of weeks. Now I have signed up. Hello.

The other day, some friends poured beer into me until I couldn't formulate excuses anymore and took me to an Amanda Palmer "ninja gig" at Carriageworks in Redfern. She played Radiohead's "Creep" on the ukelele and everyone in the room sang along; "I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo, what the hell am I doing here, I don't belong here..."

People call me Wilkey because it is my last name and already sounds like a nickname. As I write this, my Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to complete my first graphic novel has just finished, having reached its goal. Some checks from computer-weary family are still arriving. Last year, Fairleigh Dickinson accepted me into their MFA in Creative Writing Program and granted me the Director's Award for Fiction. I went for a one-week residency and politely backed out. Kicking off my flip-flops and dancing in the rain while listening to poetry from a book that is available for sale at the back of the dining hall....not for me. Not for another two years and $32000. Into the arms of Vonnegut, Bukowski, Palahniuk and Ellis I ran. So, Ive read the FAQ...thoroughly...more than once amd I must say it hasnt filled my Ellis-Shaped Hole. Read that as dirty as you like. I was spoiled. It was Marvel, Avatar, Avatar, Marvel for so many months. Mainstream, Indie, Mainstream, Indie but always from the one voice, Ellis. He gave me a taste of this drug I call "unkown" and Ive been turning up for a fix ever since. I can accept AND sympthasize with the data loss. My own external hard drive is in the sweaty hands of some IT dude from my dad's office. My only good fortune is that I emailed a ton of my stuff to myself. But Warren, please send us something! Anything! No one will complain about brand new Ellis.

Anyway, while I continue to perform my own songs acoustic at open mic nights, I am fiending on the notion of starting a brand new rock band and making a big noise. Im relieved to be here in this forum. Allow me to add my love for Ellis to the pile.

Hello all!

My name is Steve Buell. For a spell in the mid-aughts, I self-published comics and graphic novels under the banner Lost in the Dark Press. I wrote and illustrated two graphic novels, Video and Fragile Prophet. I'm very slowly chipping away at a new graphic novel, Alien Echo, so hopefully one day that'll see the light of day. If anyone's interested, click on the link to the website, there's even one of my short films for your enjoyment.

My day gig involves producing and editing web content for a video game-centric company called Machinima. The job allows me to be silly and creative, from the comfort of my home office, wearing jammies. After years of soul-crushing jobs, I have an absolute appreciation for having a job I love.

I'm here because at heart, I'm a comic book junkie. There's not a lot out there on the shelves that piques my interest anymore, so I'm here to dig through the Whitechapel brains to discover new amazing hidden treasures, be it some obscure self-published comic or some crazy webcomic I've never heard of. Barring that, I think I'd just enjoy some decent civil conversation about pop culture, music or comics. I've been a longtime fan of Mr. Ellis' work, especially Transmet. We need more craziness like that in our world.

Hi, I’m Alex.

I’m from Virginia Beach, 19 years young, and I recently fell off the wagon and got back into reading comic books. I just finished reading American Vampire, and re-reading Identity Crisis and Buffy Season 8 Vol. 1, and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into everything else this awesome medium has to offer.

At the moment I’m a freshman at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. I only have roughly a half a semester left until my first year at college ends, and already the changes in my life have been daunting. There are more than a few stories to tell., which is exactly what I hope to improve: my storytelling.

For years I’ve been percolating hopes and aspirations of making a living as a writer, in as many mediums as I can use to hone my ability. I want to look back at my creative life and be satisfied with my variety as much as my success. I love writing, from grabbing hold of an idea to the nuts and bolts of wordplay, and I’m positive that I can work that muscle consistently on the forums of White Chapel.

On that note, I’ll be starting my own blog on the site soon, so be sure to take a look sometime. I’ll make sure it’s an interesting read.

Hay Everyone. Here is an interesting and very much true story of how I got here! I am not a big comic book buff but I have participated to an extent in reading as much as I could financially afford to do since I was a little kid. I stumbled over Warren's work this month accidentally while researching references to 'Aleph' and 'The Aleph' in literature as there is a book being released later this year with that title by the Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. I went into my local comic book store to see if I could get a back dated issue of 'Swamp Thing' and the graphic novels 'Global Frequency' as a present for Coelho as I am meeting him this week in Istanbul for his yearly St. Joseph's Party. Anyway the comic book dude told me that Warren Ellis was going to be in the local UNI in Galway, Ireland giving a talk in 10 days time. Wow! Some strange, or not so strange, power seemed to be drawing me in! Unfortunately the issues of 'Global Frequency' did not arrive and but I did get to the UNI for the talk, managed to ask Warren a question (after beating a few trolls to death) and I got 'Crooked Little Vein' signed. It was really great to be there, but unfortunate I could not get 'Global Frequency' signed for the present :(

So anyway today I read FreakAngels from 1-127 over seven hours and I totally enjoyed it; almost hearing helicopters and rain at times as I looked at the wonderful artwork and words. Looking forward to reading 'Crooked Little Vein' later this week and anything else I can devour.

Hey! I'm Ben, nice to meet everyone.

By day, I am a game designer. From 2002-2007 I worked on a weird internet place called Second Life. Yeah, it's partially my fault. Since then I've been doing far less interesting things that have the potential to be far more interesting! (I've been lurking on Warren's various forums and websites since he started playing my games.) If you have game/gamification/virtualworld/online community questions, don't hesitate to ask - doing it nearly a decade now.

In my spare time, I am currently writing a comic, and writing a webpage to display it. This may or may not ever get done. I am also making games played with cleverly folded paper, which I better damn well get done.

I hope to use the collective wisdom of these boards to help me avoid as many mistakes as possible with the above projects.

I live in Austin, TX, where I do illustration and web design, and manage for the moment to make something of a living of it. Been lurking for a short while but couldn't resist the Chinese Whispers challenge.

I became a fan of Warren Ellis while reading Transmetropolitan, without much knowing it. I read the books because of their association with Hunter S Thompson and was a very naive comics reader caring not much at all who wrote them, who drew them. Not sure where my head was, possibly up my ass.

Head now swivelling on my neck to better satisfy my curiosity, I now NEED a regular fix of Ellis. It's kind of ugly but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I don't remember what cbkof first meant when I started using it on the intertubes – today, by an aleatory dictionary search, it's “cotinga Bernadotte KGB outlast freer”. Well, sometimes that works and sometimes not.

From Warren's twinkering I found his blog (which is to say I clicked a link to his blog that I was fully aware existed because I used to frequent it in the early 2000's and then promptly stopped frequenting because that's just the way things go sometimes). From his blog I was lead to Freakangels (which is to say I did not know Freakangels existed but which is also to say that I promptly ignored FA for no good reason until I suddenly stopped ignoring it and then subsequently fell in love with the thing). Because I wanted more of that sweet, sweet FA experience I found myself here. I am not cool and haven't been since the late 80's when wearing Doc Martens and listening to Suicidal Tendencies made you somewhat alarming instead of completely retro-charming (which is to say I discovered Mr. Ellis via The Authority and Planetary instead of via Hellblazer or Transmet though I went on to read and enjoy it all except the ones I didn't). I'm married and have two boys who are discovering comic books which I think is kind of cool because all parents just want to force their kids to relive their own childhoods for them which, all in all, is probably child abuse but I'll take it.

I am a writer, screenwriter and illustrator and I have a day job. "VoxOrion" has haunted my work for decades and I suppose I'll keep using it as my computer-name (which is to say ShowerBoi69 was already taken, it is always already taken). You can also call me Don, in fact, I'm more likely to pay attention if you call me that.

Greetings my name is Neila, aka NeilaK20 on other parts of the internet. I've been on and off Whitechapel since 2009, mostly lurking because I had a crazy fear that you kind folks would eat me alive or something if I were to post my artwork. I'm from Texas, which is a big place, and were I to tell you the town I'm from, you would likely still have no idea where I'm at. (Maybe Jack Hare might know where I'm at.)

For the last 3 or 4 years I've been working as a professional flatter, and even inked a comic book (which is currently available). I've had considerable trouble getting my own comic off the ground but I think I'm finally making progress. It's been an emotional roller coaster working on my own book, and I was mostly dragged down worrying what others thought about the story. That worry, coupled with my own shaky confidence in myself led to numerous rewrites that eventually culminated in a script that had Nothing I wanted in it. :/ So I went back to an earlier script and tweaked bits and made it what I want to tell. :D

I found out about Whitechapel and Freakangels via Paul Duffield's Deviant art Page and at the time had no knowledge as to who Warren Ellis was. D: I was such an uncultured ignorant child. Tsk Tsk.
This past year or so lots of stuff happened and I found myself posting art on Whitechapel, and discovered that everyone here is really nice. :D I was really missing out by mostly lurking!

Hi all,

My name is Bucky and I’m a writer, mostly here hunting for artists to collaborate with. I love Freakangels and spend a significant amount of time encouraging teenagers to read the works of Warren Ellis in my day job, but around that I work 23 hours a day trying to sell my first novel and find artists to work with on pitches for print comics.

I write about horror comics for Scream horror magazine in the UK and if you’re the creator, editor or publisher of a horror comic then I would love to hear about what you’re working on. I’m passionate about promoting the UK comic industry and hope to devote the majority of our coverage to British creators.

I spent the majority of my youth drinking until I passed out and waking in strange places, before working at Travelling Man in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne for 3 years and then relocating to Manchester. I spent the last 6 years writing my first novel This Amphibious Existence, an Apocalypse Romance that combines blistering honesty and social realism with alcohol-induced blackouts, crippling indecisiveness and cannibalism. I finished last September and have yet to find a publisher, but since then I’ve been trying to write in every other way imaginable. I started a blog, I’m on Twitter, I’m editing an anthology of comics created by horror-punk bands from around the world, short films from a couple of my scripts are currently being filmed and I’m writing a children’s book.

Mostly I want to sell my novel and write comics. This is where Whitechapel comes in. I’m looking for talented artists to collaborate with on pitches to get some comics off the ground. If along the way I can use Scream magazine as a platform to promote people on these boards then all the better.

I'm named Trevor and from New Brunswick, which you've probably not heard of unless you've flown over it to get somewhere else. We're a bit like Canada's Maine.

I'm in the middle of a long and probably-slightly-insane attempt to create and write serialized webcomics (not unlike Freakangels), because I evidently enjoy getting confused looks from everyone wondering why a 24-year-old young man wouldn't have a real job. I also can't drive a car, which worries them even more.

I've been reading Warren since Excalibur when I was a kid, so I'm really not sure why I've never joined any of the various message boards that have been around. It's time to beef up my internet social presence.

(Oh, and, I'd gladly post a picture but I haven't been in one since 2007. If you're at all familiar with Genndy Tartakovsky's Dexter's Laboratory, imagine Mandark with a Wil Wheaton beard and you're well on your way.)

I'm Eric, an unpublished do-nothing loaf of white bread. I've got a degree in writing, which is akin to having a degree in waking up in the morning or a certificate in biding time. I've lurked on these boards for what seems like years, posting now and again under different guises. 'Ello people! I figured I should finally register and contribute some of my oh-so-insightful nattering to this community after lurking so long.

My name is Max Loy, though I actually respond faster to being called Morac. I'm 23, and just about to graduate with my degree in computer science (and a minor in philosophy). I hope to end up working in the video games industry, maybe eventually getting some of my own game ideas actualized, but once I graduate I'll be glad to settle for a job that I enjoy doing. I also occasionally write (at a really slow pace), and play far too much video games (which I try and pass off as "research"). I currently reside in Victoria, Canada, though this place is hole that I hope to escape from in the next few months. This place is so full of decrepit old people, it's depressing (and for the record: 40's and 50's are not classified as "old", I am talking 80's and 90's here).

I have a website, which I am coding from the ground up, primarily to see if I can. It's kinda half-finished at the moment. Hopefully I can pull it together in the next month or so.

Hello, I'm Andrew. I've been lurking for a bit.
I am a life-long comics fan which is how I got here. I started with the Phantom then went on to 2000 A.D. Freakangels reminds of 2000 A.D. a bit, in a way.
I write lots of stuff but mosty i've had art criticism published. I have two neglected blogs that went into hibernation when I went on a three month project with some UK artist around the wilds of Tasmania, where I live. I'll link to them when there's some fresh content.
I make performance and video art, moslty based around endurance and self-abuse play noise in bnad called EVIL GOAT, sometimes organise events and try to be a better cook. I think i'm going to write a masters in art theory later this year.
