    RULES:

No pen-portraits. This is ART ONLY. Posting just a bunch of text, or a scribble and a vast number of words, will get the thread closed and your account banned.

NO MORE PHOTO-MANIPULATION "art". I'll just delete them. People have been drenching recent threads with several pieces at a time that they've knocked out in photoshop in 2 minutes with no thought at all. I consider this to be taking the piss.

    I will allow original photography.

No more than ONE submission by any one person in any one REMAKE/REMODEL.

    INSTRUCTIONS:

The Magician From Mars was introduced to comics in 1940. This is therefore the classic style of REMAKE/REMODEL. Consider it a warm-up for something we're going to do on the 28th. Here's a chunk of wiki entry on the character:

In the future, Jane Q-X 3 Gem, the Magician from Mars, is born to a Martian father, Jarl 6EM35, and a Earthling mother, Jane Faro. When she was a baby, she was accidently exposed to "cathode" radiation, which is deadly to humans but which Martians are naturally immune to. Because she was a hybrid of the two, the radiation had an unexpected effect of boosting her brain power to the point where she was capable of changing reality with a thought..

At 16 years old, she lost both of her parents and was raised by her Aunt Vanza, who refuses to allow the girl to travel to Earth. Eventually, she found life on Mars too boring, so she escaped from the "Supersteel Room" prison her aunt locked her in and took passage on a ship to Earth. There, she decided to use her reality-warping abilities to fight evil and oppression. Eventually, she came head-to-head with the Hood, leader of an evil organization with the goal of "Universal Domination."

Her powers included super strength, speed, agility, telekinesis, super-intelligence, and the ability to manipulate matter, nullify gravity, transform her own appearance, and maintain her own youth and beauty indefinitely.

I'm going to give you a bit of help this time, and show you a picture:

Your job is to redesign, revamp, reinvent, remake and remodel this character into something that would work for the 21st Century.

    You have one week.

    Begin.

Interesting. She reminds me a little of that Super-Wizard guy from The Engine version of these, though as I recall that one was actually designed for "pen portraits."

@johnjones: You mean this guy? Yeah, now that you mention it there was probably some similar thought going on.

Dug a little bit more into this gal. In her very first appearance, she utters the line "I can destroy time and space!"

    Hell yeah.

    Dear god she's cute!

Also, I can't stop giggling at "cathode radiation".

So basically she is a female version of Dr. Manhattan (but thankfully with the ability to keep her pants on). Cool!

    @ Alan Tyson

Yep, that's the guy. Did you know that there's apparently a modern webcomic based on him now?

So uh... wouldn't she be able to bring her parents back to life? Y'know.. just one of those things that makes you go 'hmmm'.

@johnjones: Oh MAN. It actually looks kinda good, too. I remember a few years back, there was a book being put together of nothing but people's takes on old Stardust. Personally, I think I like this gal a bit better - more meat to her story, it seems. Still, interesting that such similar concepts came out at roughly the same time - says something about the source material creators at that time were drawing from.

    The Magician from Mars Remake-Remodel

First off Happy Birthday Warren, have a good one.

My concept is to continue from the old series. Free from an imprisonment, the Magician must strengthen Earth for invading Mars and usurping her family's brutal global regime. It doesn't necessarily go to plan.

    Magician from Mars

I modeled the Hood on Mubarak because it seemed appropriate. And because he has a funny face.
