Couple of bands from Belfast (I live in and mostly write about bands from the city) that are/were worth a wee listen.

The Killing spree were an experimental/hardcore act that lay-waste to the city a few years back. Magical.

Slomatics are implausibly heavy for a band without a bassist

Continuous battle of order are absolute insanity. Like a tornado in a jar.

And So I watch You From Afar are the local big-dogs and are pretty amazing.

    Great thread so far!

Dude, Elder rocks. Very similar to the Sword and even Gentle Giant.

the story behind them is pretty great as well. everything out of print for like 24 years, and one of the original members sons heard them and had to ask his dad about it! now everything is back in print and they play shows (with one child replacing the member who passed away if i remember right)

When I saw a recommendation for "Death" in a metal thread that wasn't what I was expecting. :-) I was pleasantly surprised with this other Death band. I've been running it in the background all day.

Death is one of my boyfriend's favorites. He put that song on a mix for me a few years back and I did not stop spinning it for quite a while.

Speaking of bands that fit in this thread that are also called Death, (@ralf.haring's comment about Death in a metal thread) here's metal band Death:

The story behind this band is actually pretty tragic. The lead singer and guitarist Chuck Shuldiner is often referred to as the father of death metal (so says Wikipedia. Actual metal fans could probably back me up on this) and within the last decade he developed cancer and due to a whole host of things that went wrong with his health insurance, he ended up dying in 2001 at the age of 34.

both deaths are excellent in their respective ways.
but what metal thread is complete without morbid angel?
    here's the laibach remix of...

also, the possibly more metal than metal...

the not quite metal but kind of...

    the just fucked up...

    the classic punk...

    the fast...

    the insane...

    the taiwanese...

    the whitechapellian...

alright, i'm done for now. hope i'm not doubling or boring others.

I don't remember if we've had some Shihad up in this joint. If not, we have now!

    And now, somethine completely different!

My boyfriend is hilariously into the Epoxies, and I am slowly being charmed by them. They are like Riot Grrl Cobra Starship. Have another!

I love Shihad! one of my fav. english bands did a shihad cover:

earthtone9 - you again (shihad cover)

actually, earthtone9 were the band that got me properly into music

7 pages and no RUDIMENTARY PENI?

    Cosmetic Plague

    The Cloud Song

The Old Man is Not Terribly Misanthropic

some of my favorite metal bands are: Nightwish, Kamelot, Northern Kings, Otep, Avenged Sevenfold, Symphony X, Avantasia, Theater of Tragedy, The Agonist and Theatres Des Vampires

    Those are primarily symphonic/power/beauty metal
Northern kings is really interesting because they are actually 4 members of other successful Finnish metal who sing classic rock songs

... and how the X-factor bastardised one of their songs. For fucks sake, why?!.
