Clutch. If you want angry, there's Pitchfork and Lost Needles, but if you want good, there's every other album they've done. A bit blues, a bit stoner metal, but entirely awesome.
Can't believe I completely missed this thread! Well, pretty much every band I wanted to pimp has already been mentioned, but there's a few notable exceptions:
Amen - One of my favourite bands ever & the best live band I've ever seen. Manic, manic energy Scum - Casey from Amen + assorted members of Emperor, Turbonegro and Zyklon Stampin' Ground - Another favourite band, highly, highly recommend Carved From Empty Words Romeo Must Die - New project with the singer and drummer from Stampin' Ground,
On the more Doomy side;
Daylight Dies - Lost to the Living is a masterpiece comparable only to My Dying Bride
new DESPISE YOU sounds very little like the legendary old stuff!
its much cleaner and more metal. huge let down for me, but more metal leanin folk should probably check it out. its a split with AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED, who turn in a decent side of the record.
@ebullientsoul - I love how they're all just standing there bored looking one second and then just kick it the fuck in with no warning. I'm looking these guys up right the fuck now. Thanks!
World Under Blood - metalcore, which I don't generally like, but worth it to hear Tim Yeung (Divine Heresy, believe he drummed for Nile for a bit) absolutely destroying it on drums
Speaking of Nile, here's "Lashed to the Slave Stick"
Aborym - weird as fuck industrial black metal
On the punk side of things...
Choking Victim - raw and angry, as punk was intended
Enemigos de la Clase - no idea about this band, found this one track as part of the "South America in Decline" compilation. Rather sweetly lo-fi.
VOID is, in my super informed and SEXY opinion, the best of the early 80s DC bands. everyone fawsn over MINOR THREAT, BAD BRAINS etc, but the VOID side of that split just smokes. they influenced all of the modern hardcore that i like...SEX/VID, VEINS, VILE GASH, NAZI DUST, WALLS, FAILURES even CEREMONY all spring from that lineage
