    On Sunday, I was wandering through one of the more hipster choked areas of Brooklyn, NY, and happened upon a guy selling old 45's and CD's of 60's French pop. Thats it, nothing else on the table but a couple of boxes of dusty records and volumes of Ultra Chicks and Brigitte Bardot. So, my morning is pure à gogo.

    In the afternoon, I'll listen to something more Hardcore, possibly Bronski Beat.

    Genghis Tron - Board Up the House (experimental electronic extreme metal - sounds a bit like the future to me)
    James White and the Blacks - Sax Maniac (jazz / no-wave)
    Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat - If the Sky Falls, We Shall Catch Larks (neofolk / apocalyptic folk)
    Disarmonia Mundi - Mind Tricks (melodic death metal)

    Next up is Ill Innocence by the all-female Japanese black metal group Gallhammer. Be interested to see if there's anything more to them than the novelty factor.

    @Joe.Distort: Reading your playlist you might want to check out Paintbox and Warhead if you haven't already, two great band from Japan. Also you mentioning COMBATWOUNDEDVETERAN made me dig out my Infest vynil, i'm not too sure why


    i have a few paintbox records, but dont like warhead as much. if you like japanese hardcore, you should try to find the MOSH CIRCLE, JERK PUNKS! 4-way compilation. very good stuff, especially RAZORS EDGE.

    Listening to a lot of Hot Chip, and listening to a ton of Holy Fuck to prepare myself to seeing them live next week. Pretty good shit. Can't wait to see how all of this plays out live, because they are half instruments and the other half a table filled with junk that makes noise.

    Hot Chip is intriguing me since it isn't what I'm accustomed to when it comes to electronic music. It sounds like regular songs with singing and stuff but made via electronic means/sounds. Either way its Holy Fuck. All the way!

    I'm actually prepping to go see a local band that this board would love to death; it's a Kalamazoo band called Blue Dahlia
    BLUE DAHLIA MYSPACE

    Best I can describe them is a cross between the Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance and the soundtrack to a silent film, which is what they do with stunning excellence. They have built a decent sized following by composing original soundtracks to old public domain silent films of the 20's. Their favorite subject is Buster Keaton, which they do amazing soundtracks to his classic films "The General" and "The Naviagator". We just saw Blue Dahlia do another Keaton classic "Seven Chances"; it's great, spirited theatrical music, plus all the bells, penny whistles and sound FX used for silent films, all blended with sweet, haunting vocals, echo drenched guitars and inventive polycultural drumming. This Wednesday, we go to see them perform their soundtrack with a showing of the old Clara bow Film "IT". All proceeds go to support NPR in Kalamazoo.

    Seriously folks, if you've been digging Burial's "Untrue", you will flip for Blue Dahlia's latest album, "This Floating World". It has some of the same haunting feel as Burial, but achieved with purely organic instrumentation; very unique and cool. They have a clip of the title track on their MySpace site, and it is nothing short of amazing (It's 11 minutes long, but worth every second!). They would fit really well on one of Warren's radio playlists.

    I've been going crazy for a band called "The Exit." Their album "Home for an Island" is greatness--good melodic rock with lots of interesting rhythm, and a twinge of reggae influence.

    Listening to the new Avantasia album, The Scarecrow

    Really different from the Metal Opera, a bit less Power Metal-y and more symphonic. No central story like the Opera, but it's still a fuckin brilliant metal concept album.

    And also to Avatar by Angels & Agony, and Serpent's Embrace by Agathodaimon, both of which are relatively old but I just got my hands on em now. EBM-ish stuff and symphonic doom metal respectively.

    Still the new Autechre.....think I might be "getting it". Have moments when I think that they're taking the piss and there's nothing but electronic rambling , and then something makes me change my mind.

    Also , been listening to Harry Partch's mighty "And on the Seventh Day, Petals Fell on Petaluma"...like a more messy , homespun Steve Reich. The man is a legend and this piece really shows how his demented creation of both new instruments and a whole new tonal scale was worth it.

    My , The Hoosiers are shit , aren't they ?

    I've not heard anything by The Hoosiers but I do know someone who is trying to force me to listen to the album. Thanks for the heads up, I'll avoid it at all costs.

    I'm currently playing Under Byen "Det Er Mig Der Holder" and The Dissociatives "Sydney circa2004slash08" on rotation (which took me the best part of Saturday evening to rip from the DVD). Wierd postrock-gone-a-bit-pop alternating with weird-pop-gone-a-bit-rock is what's working for me today.

    But goddammit, I really going to have to start listening to NEW music at some point...
