    Last.fm says Burial, Boxcutter, myself (oops, I don't belong in that kind of company) but in the car, which doesn't scrobble it's been Nadja all week. Drone metal that seems to be made by leaving guitars to feedback and regulating it with laptops(?) and a few sparse beats thrown in.

    For next weeks releases I want to check out that Atlas Sound.

    on the computer, it's my slacker station.

    in the car:
    "the lion, the fish, and the mustache" by spoken nerd (pseudo-christian hip-hop)
    "introducing foxy shazam" by foxy shazam (crazy rock n' soul about robin hood)
    "the great filter" by tub ring (hard-to-pin-down rock band, used to be called "bungle-esque" but i don't think it sticks anymore)
    "brutal youth" by elvis costello (don't tell me you don't know who he is. if so, for shame.)

    i tend to listen to the same cds over and over, so list might not change much next week.

    I'm pretty mesmerized by Speaker Bite Me, an Experimental Pop band. So much, that I'm thinking about grabbing tickets for their preformance in a couple of months.

    Specifically I've been listening to their BELLE DE BOSKOOP and TEACH ME TIGER.

    I've practically had The Mars Volta's The Bedlam In Goliath on repeat since I got it a couple of weeks ago. After Amputechture came out I thought that they'd never be able to surpass Frances The Mute, but TBIG is just something else entirely.

    It's got all of the energy of Amp but still retains some of the subtlety of FTM. Plus, they've gone on record with music magazines the world over saying that they conversed with spirits through a Ouija board. Christian groups demonise bands that joke about that kind of thing, but they don't give a shit.

    @JaredRules I remember Low Beat off of the Hype! soundtrack. Love that song. I need to hear more of them.

    EDIT - Wrong band. I was thinking of Young Fresh Fellows. I have Pajama Party In A Haunted Hive, off of the Sub Pop 200 Cd.

    Imagine the beauty of Sigur Ros with the creep of Godspeed. Drone/Doom/Shoegaze crush from Canada. They're playing in Chicago on March 30th and I'm psyched. Radiance of Shadows is the easiest to find of the 3 since it's on Alien8. Urgently recommended. You need this in your ear. listen to Radiance of Shaows on the Alien8 site

    Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I

    Modern Classical + post IDM laptop fuckery. Think World's End Girlfriend.

    Earth - The Bee Made Honey in the Lion's Skull

    This was unexpected. Much more lush than past earth but still gorgeous.

    The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand

    More Drone/Doom/Shoegaze sounds. Less musical than Nadja but more crushing metal.

    Yes! Radiance of Shadows has been my drive to work soundtrack this week.

    If Kashiwa Daisuke is anything like the quality of the record Mono & World's End Girlfriend did together I'll have to check it out.

    I was poking around EMusic looking for non-English, non-rock music suitable for playing in the bookstore I toil at, and made a mixer that included MC Solaar, Tinariwen, Enter the Haggis, Garmarna, The Tossers, Ozomatli, Albannach, and some vintage 30s Irish fiddle music.

    Playing a lot of Rob Zombie, Rammstein, and an unlabeled mixer of Scandinavian metal in the car, and Last.fming stuff under an "Uncle Tupelo" station, which pulls up a lot of silly stuff.

    Found a couple of high-energy Celtic-influenced bands called Fathom and the Scythians that i am looking for more of.

    Tried desperately to find CD or digital recordings of one of my favorite bands of the 90s, a Tucson-based band called The Sidewinders, found out they changed their name to the Sand Rubies, but still having trouble finding actual music by them.

    Right now it's Ashley MacIsaac and Paddy Canny in a fight for my musical soul. . . .
