Or SPIT, as a previous regular once called it.

We're going to launch one of these threads a month. And down the months and years, we'll build up not only a mugshot parade of visitors to Whitechapel -- but also, for those who choose to participate monthly, there'll be a record of how we all change and grow (and in my case age horribly).

Obviously, I encourage participation from everyone, even if you're just joining the place. This thread is certainly NOT just for the old lags. In fact, the more new faces the better.

So. Take a photo of yourself and post it (if you're not sure how -- you put a photo on the web somewhere, a free hosting site like Flickr or Photobucket or your LJ gallery if you use LJ -- Blogger image hosting won't work -- and click the "img" button above to put the address of the image in, the http://) here.

I'll get to mine once I'm, you know... piss off, I'm busy...

Who are so smart they have to pick apart everything you say, who make you feel stupid and worthless and even more stupid for getting upset over them. Who manage to take every possible topic and spew out so much general negativity they instantly ruin your day?

I curled my hair and then went to a house party where I danced like a maniac to italodisco.

Then I found some vintage Polaroid frames with these amazing molded plastic Polaroid mats in them. I've removed one from the frame and begun to shoot all of my friends through it.

There was much trying but not even forceps were able to get her mighty skull out of there, so a caesarian it was - my good lady still did an amazing job, all without telling anybody to fuck off. She came pretty close to not doing a single childbirth stereotype, so yeah, happy me :D

I apparently blew all this gallery's previous attendance records out the door with nearly 500 people through the gallery in 4 hours! It was a blast, and we all enjoyed art from the warming glow of all the huge widescreen monitors.

I've been sleeping with my arms bent all my life, which puts strain on the nerve at the funny bone (the ulnar nerve at the elbow _is_ the funny bone). About eight months ago I started doing a wider variety of upper body workouts beyond just pullups and pushups and started including arm curls, etc, which seems to be the straw that broke the camel's ulnar nerve.

My only major symptom was tingling and numbness mostly concentrated in my pinky and ring fingers (it's also called cubital tunnel syndrome; the more popular RSI carpal tunnel affects the other three fingers), at first by clear aggravators (pushups, the vibrations of running, lifting glasses of water to my mouth) and later by no immediate cause.

I didn't stop exercising or start sleeping with my arms straight fast enough and without surgery I would eventually cause irreparable damage and lose the use of both hands. I was lucky though: they only had to decompress and not physically move the nerves. Though it would be cool to share a plot point with Whedon's Serenity in case a fight ever came to that (it won't), it would've been a much longer recovery.

The hardest part is neither my brain nor my body functions well with physical inactivity and for the last six months I've become someone who moves less and less. Ironically, I upped my exercise regimen to _prevent_ running injuries. And that's what gave me a condition usually associated with teenage girls who talk on their cell phones too much.

Biking, especially on an exercise bike, and to some extent on a road bike (especially one with fat, lower-pressure 'mountain bike' tires) is I'm pretty sure a relatively "low-impact" exercise. You can use an exercise bike, at least, sitting upright with your arms free; or lean forward, but mostly use your back to hold you up, instead of putting all your weight on your arms/hands. An hour of it can can be boring: but people listen to music, watch TV, or read a book while they're doing it. I bought a new bike 10 days ago (a real one), and have been practicing for a new 18km-each-way commute. :)

@Fan That's good advice. Thanks. Yeah, if I would have known at any point that this was something that would last longer than (another) month, then I would have made a purchase like that. I did a trial membership at a fitness club, but the half hour driving time each day I felt was better spent extending a walk or hike.

Thanks for the well wishes, all. I should add that the surgery and photo were a few weeks ago. I like to think I know better than to get on fora while on painkillers. No reason at this point to think that it won't be all fine.

@Lazarus99: Yes. Also: if you don't already, sleep with your arms straight and try not bend your arms and then put pressure/weight on your elbows. I'm really weird in that I'm right handed but I write as if I'm left handed (which I'm trying to practice not doing). This also puts strain on the ulnar nerve.

What trini_naenae said. The other two places for ulnar entrapment are the wrist and shoulder. Since you have symptoms in the elbow, I would guess you could rule out the wrist.

GP or orthopedist. My GP always takes a "let's wait and see" approach, but by the time I go in I've already waited and seen long enough. YMMV.

I bought some knee pads and wore them backwards on my elbows to train myself to sleep with my arms straighter, which solved my symptoms for a while. When they came back I stopped exercising and went to a physical therapist for a few months thinking there was a problem with my running form. The stretches and furlough seemed to solve my symptoms for the first few weeks. Knowing what I know now, I probably would have gone straight to an orthopedic doctor (who didn't recommend surgery right away; he had me stop exercising completely for yet another six weeks), but I probably still would've tried working with a PT before consenting to the surgery. I don't know whether I could have avoided the surgery, but I definitely would have had fewer months of furlough. YMMV.

@alexwilson Oh, god. I have had bouts of numb ring/pinky finger stuff off and on since the beginning of the year. It's even bothering me right now (though it might be as likely to be psychosomatic at the moment, what w/ the panic setting in after reading your account). Mmmm beards. <3 Bring 'em on!

This week and the next, I'm a rigger/light tech/whatever is needed on an alternative version of Othello. We've completely re-arranged the room, laid softer floor (the room is a concrete blackbox), built a huge truss grid and kind of stolen most of the lamps the house has got to offer. Which means the people doing light on concerts in other rooms the next two weeks are going to want to kill us.

So, my day since Sunday and until Friday: work at 1pm, done at 11ish, have three beers and get pretty drunk from them. Saturday: Premiere and afterparty. Will be drunk. All of next week: work during show, have three beers, get drunk.

I just had three beers and I'm totally there.

Last night I left early and went to sleep at 9pm and slept for 17 hours without waking up, and I had this dream where I went to boarding school at a boy scout camp and it was after the apocalypse and I had to sell all my suitcases (i had a lot) to have enough money to pay Warren Ellis to sleep with me.

Sometimes I suspect my brain has me taking drugs while I'm asleep.

Caroline: Ask your doctor to recommend an ACCUPRESSURE/Deep Muscle Massage specialist. I was on the verge of carpal tunnel years ago, and someone who knew where the REAL muscle problem was stemming from solved it within a month. @dorkmuffin & @paulsizer seconded. My mother had some problems with one of her finger joints, got cortisone shots, which never really worked, tried accupuncture, and she said that all the pain and finger locking is now gone. You'll have to go back for a number of sessions, but it works.

Anyway, I finished my first crocheted scarf today. Woo! Now working on a bear hat for the baby my friend will be popping next week. You only get a lower face self-portrait today.

@dorkmuffin-I had some Carpel Tunnel symptoms a few years ago and my doctor told me I had a B vitamin deficiency. Once I started taking B Vitamins it went away. When you go to the doctor be sure to ask about that, hopefully, it'll be something simple like that.

Time to bring things back to earth with some horrible fleshiness. Although not a SP, Sigga took this picture yesterday after i had a night out on friday "blowing off steam". Apparently this was the result of having fallen "comically" down a flight of stairs at my local bar.

I take a lot of photographs. crappy photographs. self portraits. ones that aren't for art's sake, but rather, for posterity. I also take a lot of random naked photographs, again, not for art, but so I can see a more arbitrary perspective on what my body actually looks like (and nobody will ever see my attempts to find out what my heinie looks like, and the sad square results). So, I had my crappy little point-n-shoot, and I was looking at the photographs I'd taken in the past few days, amused by the Black Lodge like bar-bathroom shots I'd taken, which were most recent. And then, as this was the last image on the camera, it jumped back to the beginning. Naked picture. Almost the exact same angle, same perspective. Totally unplanned. And I kept flipping between the two on my camera, last-first, last-first, last-first, which amused me to no fucking end. Which means, of course, that I needed to share it with you guys.

These images have not been altered in any way aside from gif'd together.

I've been mucking about trying to find some means of reflecting light upwards with my pop-up flash, since the speedlight I was using decided to kick the bucket. Here i'm using half a foil-wrapped plastic vinegar jug, fitted over and around the flash, with a slight tab stuck in the hotshoe.

I got a package from the person my ex cheated on me with when we dated. It contained a book which I had a passing interest in YEARS ago (The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao) and a letter, explaining why I'm getting the book and saying that they and my ex broke up (information I knew since January, when my ex e-mailed me).

Needless to say, I'm pretty baffled, a bit pissed of having been reminded of a painful time and in DESPERATE need of a house call from Dr. Rum or Nurse Beer.

What makes it all worse is that in my closet is five gallons of bottled home brew stout that ISN'T FINISHED FERMENTING IN THE BOTTLE. It's painful to look at it at times like these.

@sleestak For an acting role in January, a director originally wanted me to have a beard with a shaved head, but had trouble finding a reference photo he liked (and figuring out how/where the beard would fade into the flesh at the top of the sideburns). We ended up going with a different look, but I think your photo is exactly what we were looking for.

I'm surprised more people don't shave their hair off. The time saving alone is worth it, not having to comb and style unruly locks. Although it can be a bit cold in the winter unless you constantly wear a woolly hat.
