   I can't stand Ann Coulter either, but what she's saying has some basis in fact: Radiation Hormesis. The Taiwanese example she cites was a poorly done study but the workers who were involved in the Windscale fire were studied until they died and I recall they had a lower rate of cancer than the local population, although being a small cohort it's not the sort of evidence that would get me standing near a nasty nuclear source.

    No, you're on the right track. It is, if you believe some of the commenters, a $263 million waste, which supposedly could have been prevented with $63 million worth of medicine for Hoof and Mouth Disease.

    considering that the US hasn't had an outbreak of the disease since 1929, it's hard to critique the approach. on the other hand the UK had two bad outbreaks last decade with the same status.
    
    on a related subject, if you eat pork raised in the US, this shouldn't disturb you. pigs raised in the US as pork wouldn't know the difference if they were buried alive.
