Here's a quick shot I took with my phone last night. IDW asked me to "audition" for a Godzilla one shot they're doing later this year. Working off a 3 page spec sheet. Never realized how hard it is to draw Big G if you want to get him right.

@ lazzyfair; those notes on Godzilla are amazing thus far. I'm a big fan of Tatsuya Ishida and I'm seeing a lot of reflection in your discovery with Godzilla - with his Godzilla books. You're on a great path.

    Thanks jackcrowder

I honestly have had a hell of a time finding good manga ref on Big G. Found a few images like the one below (which I used to get G's general head shape) Oddly enough, when IDW announced that they got the license for Godzilla a few months ago, I researched his various incarnations in American comics and found very quickly that western cartoonists have a tendency to want to draw their version of him, meaning more dinosaur/lizard like. For me though, I'm all about keeping it true. Giving him the dog/gorilla/noh mask face with his thick legs and upright posture. I mean that is Godzilla, no matter how you cut it.

Detective Pembleton is very moody. For some reason I feel he is just about to look up and catch the viewer just when they don't want him to....

    Nice work thus far, folks.

(Please forgive the lack of shout-outs this time around, I'm on a deadline to hit the road for a con here in a little over an hour, and need to finish getting ready...)

Planned on posting two of these today, but time won't be on my side before I head out of town, I suspect. So, here's Bot-A-Day #4:

4-5hrs. Lines in ArtRage over initial pencil roughs. Colors, highlights, and shadow in ArtRage. Background brushes, texturing, and touch-ups in Photoshop. No filters used.

Decided to get off the computer and go back to brush and ink the other day. Enjoying it immensely. Also decided to stop lurking.

Building a new illustration portfolio and have a few different directions I can take it in, and I'm having a shocking time trying to decide.

@lassyfair Lovely restrained work and quite unusual pastel colours too. It's been lovely following this from your pencils and inks to your friend's colours

@ mojokingbee; The vibe your sketches are giving up are amazing.

@ Valente; I'd have to say you're spot-on with film noir in these portraits.

@ used_bandaid; at this point, I'm very curious as how your stall will come out. Your pieces are beautiful.

@ Sketchbooke; Not only is that an awesome expression of Earth but it's damn near a wonderful interface. Is that the direction you were going? I need a program with that as the controls.

The mask was by me. The photographer was going for a "bull in a china shop / classy environment" theme.
