I d/led the 1st season of the new BBC Robin Hood series, mostly because I love the legend and eat up anything to do with it, I didn't really do my research on it. I found it mostly hit and miss. There's no supernatural element to it and it felt very American influenced (not such a bad thing, but this is the bloody BBC we're talking about!)
I personally think Robin Hood perfection was achieved with the original BBC series Robin of Sherwood. I know they have to make more, and update it, but the new series just kind of leaves me cold and I don't know if I even want the second series...
On the downside, Robin is charisma-less, the plots are appalling and everything bad was summed up in the last five seconds of the first season, when they all punch the air in unison and jump and yell yeah! Sigh.
On the upside, Sheriff of Nothingham and Guy Gisborn are great, John is pretty good and Marian is dishy...
Any thoughts? Or suggestions on other Robin Hood related shows?
I found the plots of Robin Hood to be a bit bland, and was particularly turned off by the costume design. Everyone looked like they were wearing damp trash bags (bin bags for those not in the US).
Did the fucking TARDIS show up or something? Yes. the tardis totally showed up. It appeared on that William Tell show, too. Tell ya, the Doctor is everywhere.
I want this to disappear and get its nasty advertising and promotional material out of my god damned city. As if we didn't have it bad enough being called 'Shottingham'.
I want Robin Hood to vanish into the great Black Hole of television scheduling and for it to take Torchwood with it.
The Beeb are forcing me to use my unimpressed face.
in the ITV series Robin Of Sherwood they had the whole Hern The Hunter worship angle. i can't recall other specifics but they had a lot of really trippy episodes -- it seemed to be heavier in the jason connery episodes over the michael praed ones
