oh, well, if only Britain got destroyed the rest of the world would give a collective shrug.

    I love it.

Alice is damaged all right... with a severe case of awesome!

    @Jamie Heron
I just saw the Quiet Earth again the night before last.
Never occurred to me that Aussie FreakAngels could have been the problem.
Also glad to hear that the Time Space continuum is in good shape down there.

A bit better than last week. It looks like the painful strain in my right shoulder has gone away. Still stressed over my dad's developing congestive heart failure again.

Yay Alice! She may be an ordinary human, but in some ways she's more together than the FA. I didn't expect her to figure out the outlines of Mark's plan, which makes the revelations more surprising. Too bad the series is drawing to a close, it would have been nice to see how Alice and Kait would have played off each other.

As to what happened to England, two theories pop to mind. There's the "It's A GOOD Life" scenario, where England gets warped to a pocket universe. The other plays off of something Geoff Manaugh mentioned in THE BLDGBLOG BOOK. Thanks to global warming, Great Britain is slowly tilting with Scotland's mountains rising higher and London sinking lower to the point that London being like Venice is a geological probability. Could the FAs' action have accelerated this process?

Perhaps they weren't aware that Alice had entered the scene because the alcohol in the wine they've been imbibing has dulled their perceptions just enough.

Alice is extrapolating a lot from seeing the helicopter. If the world survived, then the chance of they're being able to receive shortwave programming would be very high. But... a possible path of thought would be to consider what happened to the ships at sea. Destroyed, or badly buffeted around by what happened, and they're now sending out their helicopters to check things out?

I dunno. A fine red mist where Mark's head was would be interesting to recover from. Although, seriously, the gun can be disassembled in her hands (much like the katana), Alice can be teleported, etc., etc.

They ALL try to teleport her (but only Arkady has done this before,) and so she gets teleported in 6 different directions at once.... *Poof* Another fine mist...

I feel silly for only just noticing that Alice is left-handed.

I am waiting for Alice to notice Luke.

i love the sheer look of horror on mark's face in that last panel...

the americans being out there...that could really change stuff.

I like how Alice is standing on his foot in the last panel. That's a nice touch.

@warren: I think arf is referring to The Weathermonger, first book in Peter Dickinson's The Changes trilogy. Loved the books & BBC series as a kid... and as I recall, the Changes (dropped tech level, old magic sneaking back) were limited to Britain.

OH - and fucking good episode. Knowing we're so close to the end... tension racking up.

Loved this episode! Plot moving fast and Alice is amazing - one of my faves for a reason!

I still wonder what turned Mark so evil. I guess even his "I want to help people and save the world" as a young kid can be read as feeding into his ego and desire to control things though.

Hope you are doing great, Ariana ^__^ I was going to get back on the Red Bull wagon but ehh, not yet. It's pricey so I'll just invest in a whole case instead.
The weather in L.A. has decided to go from fresh and pleasant to hot-as-balls. This is bad for a number of reasons; People will begin to wear less, smell moar, and drive even worse. Fortunately I never forget my Bat training and remember to keep a cool head at all times. Nobody puts baby in a corner!

If Alice shoots Mark, sure he gets another upgrade - but just how far did Connor upgrade everyone else? In his situation I would have jumped everyone up by two or three levels to get a bit of a head start.

    If that's even possible :)

Amazing how much action there can be in a small room with (mostly) people talking.

Alice's eyes are particularly visible and pale in this sequence. I like it. Makes her more vivid while simultaneously making her clearly separate from the FAs.

Damn, first time I wrote the previous sentence it ended "...the other FAs." Yeah, gotta love Alice.

Spring finally came! Cool week, and super-cool episode!
Alice's eyes are chilling, and the other Freakangels will need to intervene soon. She evidently hasn't noticed Luke and doesn't know Mark is supposed to have died, also. Maybe an infodump like Arkady gave Connor is in order. Then maybe they can "upgrade" Alice to Freakangel level.

"In his situation I would have jumped everyone up by two or three levels to get a bit of a head start"

Well, maybe Connor did precisely that. And Mark and Luke appear to have been DOWNgraded.

@bobsyuncle: I'm not so sure that Alice is 'damaged'.

And @scs: You said "first time I wrote the previous sentence it ended "...the other FAs." "
Funny, that was MY hunch when I first read this week's episode. Not that she is a full-fledged FA, but I have a weird feeling that she has somehow acquired more powers than other "poor fookers", although not sure how. Or at least, she has sussed out the truth.

Maybe she actually CAN kill Mark...note how SCARED he looked when Alice said "Oh, fooking CAN'T I?"

That little smile crossing Alice's face at the bottom of page 4: crazy-ass scary.

And, @Beebo, what's that... 'another fine mist'?
Why do I have the feeling somebody's about to do The Stanley?

Was it actually a helicopter she saw or a different kind of aircraft? I seem to remember something different than a helicopter but I can't locate the episode now. Just trying to figure out who is talking to who about what.

It seems to me there will be no choice but to upgrade Alice.
