The comments (and the links in them) there are excellent too. As one of the commenters points out, this kind of thing has been going on for decades won't stop as long as there are photographers stupid or starstruck enough to go along with it. Promoters, publicists would charge photographers just for being there if they could.

Have any of the pros here had run-ins like this or faced such onerous contracts?

I've been jonesing for this for a while, actually, and having trained myself with Sailor Jerry's i wasn't disappointed. The two could do battle in my booze cabinet, really.

I"d recommend doing a search on LCBO's website. Some locations are better stocked than others. I got this bottle at the Don Mills Shoppes location.

it's quite loud as it's a pretty confined space. They don't use it very often usually only when the rock or the folk festivals are on when they show films or documentaries in there.

i saw Pantha du Prince on friday night, and was too busy completely losing my shit to remember i had a camera in my bag until the last minute or so. still, this intoxicated picture is more clear and bright than anything i could've done with my old lens. i'm hopelessly in lens-love.

(but what i really like about this picture is that he's a guy-with-laptop, totally, yet he's showing way more life than dumbstruck crowd dude.)

@COOP - Everything is angled and balanced so perfectly! And, man, you should have seen her naked with the strap on. Here's some more of the lovely Jiz Lee. I wish I knew who the artist girl was.

And that last has our own Glukakke in a case of "crap! it's low light, grainy, and not focused! I'll have to lamely salvage the shot with high contrast monochrome!"

Flowers!! You have no idea how much I want spring to start behaving itself up here. And as for the last one, flowers are the reproductive organs of plants, so of course they can look pornographic. And apparently there's an orchid in the Australian desert that functions as a blowup doll for a species of male wasps(if I remember correctly) . Or that Orchid Family's name is based off of the Greek word for testicle. And I think that is enough filthy flower facts for now.

I filled a hip flask with brandy the other day and went for a roam around my local park photographing flowers. got some very strange looks from passers-by but was too ripped to care and came home muddy and contented with lots of photos.

we had end of term performances in college last week. most of my photos were blurry crap (i'm an enthusiastic learner with no concept of technique) but was pretty pleased with this one...

Thanks for the complimentary comparison! Leica or no, shooting with a rangefinder camera makes you think about photography in a completely different way - it's challenging, but even more rewarding when you nail a shot.

@Dorkmuffin, Allana, Thewaltonsare - thanks! She was a little horror yesterday, that was a rare moment of serenity - she's eight going on seventeen, and seems to have picked up all my very worst traits of insubordination and sarcasm and inability to tolerate fools (which yesterday meant me) - I'm immensely proud of her in almost every way, but at the same time mortified and hugely guilty that I've passed those things on... She's very hard to photograph well at the moment, as she's starting to get into that gawky phase, and always mugs for the camera if she's conscious of it.

I'm really pleased with that shot - I'd been playing with lenses, that was a Nikon 1.8 50mm on my D200, which makes a fantastic portrait lens on a DX format camera and gives that wonderful shallow depth of field. I normally keep an 18-200 zoom on it, which is a really great lens for landscapes and is hugely versatile but just doesn't do that kind of shot well at all. Trouble is it's awakened my lust for a full frame DSLR again (would have to be a D700 so my lenses would fit it) - I just feel happier with a nice bright big viewfinder and a prime lens and DX has always felt like a poor compromise... ach.

This is the view from Old Winchester Hill - about five miles away from us and we went for a picnic today. Very beautiful, and just looking at these views makes me realise how bloody lucky we are to live where we do. I grew up taking this landscape for granted, had always thought of it as being inferior to the really dramatic stuff, but it's only in the last few years that I've properly appreciated that it has a different sort of beauty.

Finally got to give the new camera an astrophotography workout for the first time last weekend.

They didn't turn out quite as well as I'd hoped, due to it being much more crowded than expected, so ambient light from people in their cars snuck in and made really long exposures not work out so well (that last is a seven minute exposure, and it took some doing to salvage it). But overall I'm happy. The D50 never got flares on bright stars, but the D7000 does. Next time hopefully it won't be so crowded, or so fucking cold.

ISO 800, 28mm f/2.8 lens, shooting RAW. If I drop the iso much below that I lose any deep sky objects unless I significantly increase the exposure time, and with my bodged together tracking rig an exposure longer than about 8 minutes starts to show noticeable star trailing (unless I've lucked out that night and gotten the alignment spot on, which is pretty rare). I wanted to give my 50mm f/1.8 lens a try that night, but it was so cold I could barely feel the camera, so switching lenses was out.

@Bankara, Thanks! I've just ordered a couple of Georgia O'Keeffe books, have kind of always had her in mind from half-remembered articles - Mapplethorpe too. I've had a couple of years when I'd neglected photography - and especially floral work a bit, I had plans to start trying to sell prints, but have never had the concentration to get them off the ground. I also had membership of the Hillier Arboretum, which is a wonderful garden, but that's too far for me to get to easily now. But as I get my own garden up and running (moved in here in 2009, and it's been a bit of a blank canvas) I'll do a lot more. I want to get the conservatory cleared as well so I can use it as a daylight studio - too cluttered with unpacked boxes at the moment...

One thing that I think was a step change as well was starting to treat digital as akin to negatives - I'd started off treating it like transparency (which I learned on), and being very disappointed with the results - as soon as I'd made that mental flip it all started working!

i've shot about half my pack of Impossible Project, but wasn't having a great time getting stuff to turn out well. then, i forgot to scan them for three months, and it turns out they deteriorate quite rapidly, even in a sealed box. i'll have to see what's happened to the rest of the pack when i shoot it.

@John, those creamy macro florals are really good. They just hint at what the subject matter is in a way that is at once abstract and sensual. Keep working in that vein and I shouldn't be surprised if you could see some prints. Most floral work leaves me cold but these are different in a way that is hard to pin down but just hits that gut reaction that sez gooood. Nice work!

Last leg of the Amgen Tour of California went around where my place is. Took some shots while waiting to cross the street to get to my car.

Then I decided to try and hike up Boney Mountain:

Unfortunately the pictures really don't do the size of the rocks justice. Hopefully I'll be able to get closer when I try again in a few weeks.

Did a little exploration of the abandoned Battery Steel on Peak's Island today. This shot was taken in a room with zero light, just the camera's flash.
