Okiedokie - I've looked into it. Short version is that the word "Whitechapel" isn't owned by us anyway, so you're free to go ahead and use it without getting anyone's knickers in a twist. Sadly we can't let you use the logo/typeface-design, because there's a good chance we'll be using it for other stuff in the not-too-distant. But yeah: WHITECHAPEL QUARTERLY sounds fab. Best of luck with it.
Would it be all right if I posted a thread to hawk a Kindle collection a friend and I have coming out in a few days? I know people have done so before, but I don't want to step on any toes, and if it's better to go in the Blogs section, I'll be happy to do that.
There are quasi-reasons, yes. None worth mentioning, unless they get too embuggering. 'Til then: it's up and running. I'm not totally convinced yet there's a need to replace a dead O.M. thread with a new one straight away, week-in, week-out, so let's aim for a patchy, "it's usually live" vibe for now. I reserve the right to kill it with fire.
In some ways, having a random attack of the O.M makes me appreciate it more when it comes along. I like the three act format as well.
And I guess we've got The Vile Hug thing to fall back on when times are tough.
I'm glad Curb agrees with me about Spinning Yarns. I remember the last one being a bit quiet, but I've read some great stories on that thread. It's something we've all got in common; mad stories, good stories, weird stories etc.
I miss when threads would be closed immediately because one of the mods just didn't like it, or because they realized before problems happened that it was a bad idea. I really wish that someone were around to give a bit of snark and close things up when someone started a thread to underpay artists to draw their tattoos/comics. As much as I appreciated the end to that last spam thread, the fact that the virginity one keeps popping up is irking me.
Can we make Oldhat into some sort of Judge Dredd figure? Let her be judge, jury, and executioner sometimes for whitechapel threads? I miss the dystopia. And I think we could use an extra hand to keep things tidy.
Regarding the Spinning Yarns thread, I'm prepared to bring it back when my current ridufuckinglously busy period has ended - next week or so. But I'll be watching for another diminishing of interest.
Nothing to stop you starting one and seeing how it goes. Rule is: if it becomes popular (a la Oldhat's photography thread) we can make it sticky and "official". If there's only limited interest it's up to you whether you keep it going as a labour of love or let it perish in peace.
