I really don't get the point of the scene with Theon and Ros on the road where he pays her to flash him.

I'm assuming that they have to keep developing him as a minor character for later developments.

He does get more plot in later books but what did that scene really give us? That he had feelings for a prostitute? I think we're getting much better character building in watching his interactions with other characters, like the scene with him and Rob or the earlier scene with him and Tyrion.

I do think they got Bronn down perfectly though. He's got just the right amount of "I don't give a fuck" and rank opportunism.

This show feels like All My Lord of the Rings, like some sort of testosterone filled medieval fantasy soap opera.

Not that I mean that as a dig. But I was watching it the other night, and my girlfriend walked in, and asked if I was "watching my stories" and I started to explain what was going on, and man, I sounded like a housewife talking about As the World Turns or something.

And then I find myself surprisingly emotionally invested in the show, I mean I'm actually angry what's happening to the Starks! So yeah. This is my era of watching soap operas. This, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy and Walking Dead are my new Man Soaps.

ManSoap! Now in Medieval Fantasy scent!

...caught up on the tv series and so far carefully dodged any potential spoilers of the last two eps. Worried though it'll end on a massive cliffhanger (don't answer that! I don't want to know before it happens!)

I too just caught up, and am in spoiler hell. I don't know why I didn't just go read the books. Except that I do. They are thousands of pages long.

Can't wait to buy this when it's out. Sounds like y'all are having w great time watching it, and I enjoy reading your accounts of the show, and when I recognize things from the book.

    The post of

Did get me to laugh. :)

So, one thing I'm a little surprised with in the last two episodes: since when did HBO start doing full-frontal male nudity? I mean, I watched every season of the Tudors, which was basically a historically-tinged soft porn extravaganza, and a few episodes of Hung, which is about a male prostitute who is blessed/cursed with an overly large penis, and there wasn't a bit of male tackle to be seen but so far we've seen two wagging penises in the last two episodes of AGoT.

I'm more than a little eager to hear the non-reader reactions to tonight's episode.

Rome. Lots of big cock shots in that one.

Hardly surprising. Did anyone think the inbred thirteen-year-old would make a smart decision and settle a huge conflict that the entire series is building up to?

Huh, then I must've missed it in those HBO series and miniseries. I mean, I've been watching TrueBlood for three seasons and there hasn't been one flash of cock.

I know. I've read the books and it still pisses me off.

It's probably up to whomever is producing a show. Mildred Pierce had cock, too.

Re: tonight's episode - Yes, that went pretty much exactly how I imagined it when I read the book, right down to the look of "Oh fuck. Ohsitohshitohfuckingfuckingfuck!" on all of the Small Council's face and the expression of smugness on Joffrey's.

After tonight's episode, we need this again
    Joffrey gets it

The ending of this episode got spoiled in general chat of an MMO I play, but a couple of my housemates were shocked. My boyfriend was mostly amazed they would kill their biggest star like that. At this point, knowing that Martin is an "anyone can die" kind of writer, I've reduced my caring level to only the characters I'm most attached to and who exhibit a disinclination to running into swords - Tyrion and Arya. If they die, then I'll be pissed.

I did not see this ending coming, and it absolutely gutted me. Absolutely ripped me to shreds. It's been awhile since a TV show did that to me. It seemed to happen in slow motion too like, wait a minute...no he's not going to do what I think he's going to do, wait of course he is...is someone going to stop him? Just damn. And then the trailer for next week's episode with the Queen being like "we will burn their motherfucking house to the ground" was just the right note, ha.

Question: who's the old guy who plays the commander at the Wall? He seems to have made a career of playing grizzled military types.
