One of my friends has been telling me to read this for years, and I've told her countless times I "grew out" of fantasy books. After I watched the first episode I signed up for audible and got the audiobook so I can listen in the car and at work. So far everything is awesome.
I really can't wait to see people's reactions to next season after reading all the hoopla of people declaring they will never watch the show after this season finale.
If they'll watch the finale, they'll watch next season's premier. I find it hard to believe it when someone says they'll quit a show, but after just one more episode, they mean it.
I haven't read the books and am utterly captivated by the show, blatantly logical plot twists that still catch me out (Joffrey's lineage, for example), the constant tension of fluid and rigid agendas, a healthy dose of sex and a well realized, medieval sense that death is only "one bad potato away" (as a friend put it).
As for loving the Lannisters, who wouldn't? the beautiful, capable, machiavellian shites that they are.
That makes sense, considering the subject matter of the show. Guess I need to get better about my HBO mini-series.
As to Conan, yeah, I think it could be ok but if they turn Conan into some kind of hero-for-the-people-freedom-fighter I don't care how good he looks for the part, the movie will be shite.
I had read the first book a few months before the series started, and I'm enjoying watching the series through my GF's eyes. The unending cruelty that Martin inflicts on his characters seems like something you don't see a lot in TV, and it's fun to hear my GF's predictions as to how things will turn out. They're never, ever as miserable as the events turn out to be.
Oh man, and I haven't even shown her the latest episode yet. :D
I really need to get caught up; I just watched Ep. 4 this morning. Especially since That Part in This Week's Episode hit. To have read Martin is to be a fan of schadenfreude.
I'm waiting for it to hit Blu-Ray, and then I'll probably watch the whole thing over a weekend... Sucks that it's only on Sky over here, as my landlord won't let me stick a dish on the flat...
