@Magnulus, hide yer spoilerz that I left there? I edited so that I'm LESS of an asshole.
    • CommentTimeMay 10th 2012
Hah, sorry. Hidden now. :) You're not an asshole. It happens. But I will steer clear of the thread until the end from now. I don't really like the word "spoiler" because the connotation is that the story in question is ruined by knowing said "spoiler", which - if it's a good story - is bullshit. I do like to not know what's happening, though, and this is a book/ TV series that is hard to discuss properly without "spoilers" so I'll just stay clear for now. :)

Great acting from Catelyn last night and I'm homing that we're finally going to get to see Brienne be a bad ass.

Oh, and I totally called it with the warlocks and how they're going to get Daenyrs into the House of the Undying
although I don't remember Xaros becoming King of Qarth in the books.
    • CommentTimeMay 14th 2012
i think thats just so you have a recognisable foe for Dani rather than the faceless 'new king' from the books. when i think about it there are a lot of needless complications in the books

The Xaro/Warlock thing was unexpected. More first-hand lessons on how to play the Game for Dany and a compelling reason to go to the House of the Undying. Seems a bit better than the moustache-twirling it came off as last week.

I'm not sure where they're headed with Jon.
The time he was with Qhorin didn't really set up the right things. I'm wondering if they'll pull a switch and, with all of Ygritte's talk of the free folk have him switch sides to pull a cool cliffhanger on non-readers. Then next season flash back to a conversation with Qhorin about doing what he must, switching sides, and so on.

Ygritte's "You know nothing, Jon Snow" was perfect.

"Ygritte's "You know nothing, Jon Snow" was perfect." <---- This.

I'm assuming we're going to see next week that Qhorin has also been captured by the wildlings, probably injured, and he'll order Jon to kill him so that Jon will be accepted by the wildlings.

So, I'm actually thoroughly enjoying Arya's onscreen time even though it is completely not part of the book. So fun! So precocious!

Bit of a place-holder episode, this last one, pushing the various plot-points along. Best thing in it was Cercei w/ Sansa and Tyrion. Surprising, since she was a bit OTT and arch at the beginning of the season.

The guys playing Catelyn Stark and Jorah Mormont had pretty intense scenes and probably could have been given some more time to get them right. Jamie Lannister was magnificent, however.

For the first time, the deviations from the book bugged me.

King of Qarth? Qarth doesn't have a king. Still doesn't, even in Book 7. C'mon.

I guess I was also looking forward to seeing
the battle at the Fist of the First Men,
and so felt a mite short changed by last night's ep.

But, agreed, KINGSLAYER! is an awesome character, good to have him back. Looking forward to
    his antics with Brienne.

You know what I'm looking forward to?

Because I'm a horrible, horrible man.

"Ygritte's "You know nothing, Jon Snow" was perfect." <---- This, seconded. In the audiobooks read by Doltrice it's always this kind of lilting thing "U NO NUFFING JON SNOW TEEHEEHEEEE"
But the "You know nuthin', Jon Snow" from the show, said with a bit of contempt - almost as if she's spitting, is how it should be.

The look on Jacquen's face was priceless, just the right amount of "Are you fucking with me? You're fucking with me right now, aren't you?"

Lots of "cunt" in this episode. I mean, it was almost like a perverse kid's book "He's a cunt, she's a cunt, you're a cunt, they're a cunt..."

Oh, also, rewatched last week's episode. Anyone else catch the order of acceptable sexual partners for Ygritte was:
    1. Woman
    2. Another man
    3. Goat
    4. Yourself?

    "Give a man another name"
    "Jacquen Hagar"
    "A girl is without honor"

    @agentarsenic - right?

I would absolutely watch a totally non-canon spin-off sitcom series in which Arya and Jaqen H'ghar knock about Westeros bickering and assassinating n'er-do-wells, staying one step ahead of Tywin Lannister, who is always just on the verge of figuring out who Arya actually is, but is always tricked into thinking it's just a misunderstanding.

    Looks like
    Jeyne Westerling
has been completely written out. I don't suppose it matters a huge amount.
    • CommentTimeMay 21st 2012
I'm pretty sure Talisa is Jeyne Westerling. I've been thinking she's been lying about who she is, as she's a noblewoman and otherwise probably couldn't just wander battlefields like Florence Nightingale. Could be wrong and maybe they just changed the character, but that character is definately filling the Jeyne Westerling role.
    • CommentTimeMay 21st 2012
    Re Jeyne:
I'm thinking the same thing. There was an odd little bit about spies in camp a couple eps ago; and suddenly Tywin knows exactly where Robb is marching to. I wouldn't count her out as Jeyne yet.

The thing I'm most curious about is Tyrion's
chain...or lack thereof. It's pretty key to the Battle of the Blackwater.
Maybe I'm delusional, but I thought I heard a lot of metalworking going on outside Tyrion's window.
  5.  (9805.20)
Yeah, I hope they don't take away
Tyrion's chain, as it demonstrates just how astute he really is.

Also, I am starting to understand why they created the character of Ros, at it allows them to just amalgamate all the smaller "whore characters" into one.
