If you like hippie burritos/wraps/salads (ie whole beans, brown rice, no red meat) and/or Frank Zappa then check out Laughing Planet Cafe. I used to manage one in Portland, but the Bloomington one was the first (there are now like 5 or 6 in the NW). Also, the same owner has a coffee shop called Soma around there too but I've never been so I can't vouch for it.
I live about 40 minutes south of bloomington, spent a lot of time there while growing up and even recently. There are tons of things to see, do, eat. It has changed a lot over the last 30 years but it can be a fun town. I could give you some suggestions if I knew your interests- cuisine, outdoor activities etc.
Well I had my first visit. Mother Bear's was awesome!
Sorry I wasn't able to get back in the forum before I went. I live in Alabama and was slightly affected by the tornadoes. No where near the devastation around me though.
I am moving to Bloomington in the fall. I like hiking, camping, kayaking/canoeing. I hope to ride my bike more. I need to find a job there to live on while obtaining my second degree.
Wish I would have seen this thread sooner, I live here in Bloomington. Could have helped you out. Anyhow, glad you enjoyed it. Hope your move goes okay. If you have need for more recommendations, just let us know.
Vintage Phoenix Comic Books and Landlocked Music are two local establishments I would like to recommend. Also obtaining your Monroe County Public Library card is a must. One of the best in the country. No shit. It's wonderful. Oh, and someone else mentioned Bloomingfoods. Yeah. Wait, the Saturday Farmers Market, too. Ever seen the film "Breaking Away"? Thirty years outdated but good for some historical perspective.
Ha! Infomancer. I would probably recognize you. I frequent that place. I often meet up with my teenage daughters there. I have stuff on hold all the time. And yes, awesome may not be to strong of a descriptor for the library.
