    argh game of thrones ends tonight. then i have nothing on tv to watch till true blood comes on. oh yeah and futurama comes back this month also.

    Camelot, unfortunately, is mostly The Adventures of King Arthur, Surfer Douche.
    Perfect description. Full-on lulz when I read that.

    And Joseph Fiennes doesn't seem sure what to do with his version of Merlin (regardless of the character's indecision about what to do with his "abilities").

    There've been a few nice touches but it still largely strikes me as being a bit too nice, clean and orderly.

    Some interesting stuff on Brit TV at the mo. Shadow Line looked very good, and Luther starts again this week. Ruth Wilson who plays Alice is excellent. Case histories is ok (Even if they have gone the divorced, troubled, Wallander/Rebus/etc cop route)

    Though I'm down with TEEN WOLF on general principle (MTV doing genre television instead of another reality show), I find myself enjoying it for what it is - a genial, breezy, teen-oriented series that plays it light without being snide or camp.

    And I'm old enough to be happy that Russell Mulcahy's work is back on the network, as he's directing half the episodes.

    Here's hoping this sticks - a gradual fading out of reality television across the landscape would delight me.

    I subjected my girlfriend to a reality show the other day, but there's midgets!!!

    The little couple, filmed here in Houston about a 4ft even husband , and 3ft 2 wife, and they're adorable. Ok, my confession is over.

    Falling Skies premiers on TNT tomorrow night.

    I saw an early version of the pilot last summer. It was OK. More a drama than SF. In tone, perhaps a little like Jericho, which was about people in a small town dealing with nuclear war.

    I'll probably watch a few episodes to see how it holds up.

    So, who else thought The Shadow Line degenerated into utter twaddle at the end?
    I liked the twist...
    ...that the whole dope/money thing was to keep police pensions going

    ...but found the resolution messy, overwrought and far too dependant on the music commanding mood. Shame - some splendid work in that cast, especially Stephen Rea.

    I'm quite surprised at how good Teen Wolf is. The werewolf makeup was stupid, but i suspect that's kinda the point There were some quite filthy jokes too.

    Was the director the guy that did Highlander?

    @Oddcult - yes, TEEN WOLF director Russell Mulcahy made Highlander (and its poorly-regarded first sequel).

    He also directed the first video MTV ever aired (The Buggles' "Video Killed The Radio Star", natch), as well as many of the landmark videos of the early to mid 80s, so TEEN WOLF is a nice little homecoming.

    Well, to be fair. Nothing compares to Big Wolf on Campus. That show was awesome. But I would like to know how good the new Teen Wolf is. I'm thinking it's just Vampire Diaries with werewolves but am I wrong?

    DJ - the series plays it a little straighter than the films.

    Colby - it's teen-oriented, but credits its audience with a brain. As such, it's fine.

    I'm giving Falling Skies a chance. Someone mentioned it being reminiscent of Jericho, and I second the thought. There's enough there to bear sticking with it for the time being, and I have some ideas what's going on in the background.

    The "uncle" teaching the older kids mentions why multi-legged creatures built bi-pedal walkers. They're experimenting on the children. Wouldn't be surprised if the bi-pedal walkers turn out to be the end result of some of the kids being worked on. Or, in some fashion, the children are being "converted," seeing a grunt alien getting killed in a warehouse, it had very human reactions before dying. Wonder if it used to be a human.


    I like Noah Wylie, and Will Patton is going his best "asshole military guy" part, and it works for the most part. it did seem a bit slow, so I'll watch it for now. It's still going to be a while before Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy come back on; if it doesn't really grab me by then, then I'll drop it. I can only watch so much TV.

    My suspicion, after seeing the preview last year, was that Falling Skies was going to essentially be a survival drama, where the aliens were a drop-in menace whose nature wasn't going to be very important. It could still be that way, but there are hints that things may be more complex than that.

    Someone on another board had this suggestion:
    The multi-legged aliens are another, conquered race, controlled by those harness things. The bipedal walkers are patterned after the "original" race.

    Anyone seen this yet?

    The Three Musketeers (2011)

    Seems like a (completely not like the book previous films) Steampunk version of the story, with Logan Lerman, Orlando Bloom, Milla Jovovich, Christoph Waltz, Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson.

    At first, I thought, oh great, not another one. Then I watched the trailers, and saw two airships firing cannons at eachother, some flamethrowers, and other random gadgets.

    It may not have the class of the novel or previous versions, but looks like a fun popcorn steampunk movie, in the vein of Downey's Sherlock Holmes.
