As I suspect our benefactor will be closing the April thread soon enough, I thought I'd go head and start May...
(Full-sized image can be seen by clicking on pic to Flickr and navigating from the lightbox once there.)
~45min speedpainting, playing around with some technique ideas. Custom brushes used to create initial structure forms in Photoshop, filtering and colors done in ArtRage.
Hello, I come here to ruin the high quality at which this thread started... by posting my doodles :D
It's second of my short comics from this year so not hte most recent work (the tablet's still out of order so I'm stuck with pencils... and my pencils aren't very exciting).
I think stylewise it was somewhat inspired by Dungeon.
Great work from all of you. I am stealing all your TECHNIQUES! Neilford how much of that image is traditional vs. digital? I spent ten minutes at least traveling around the image exploring all the textures.
"Abe was a dick after killing Osama." #2 in my President Lincoln was a dick series. Late night sketch before sleep.
Please visit my kickstarter project at RUIN at kickstarterdotcom for information on my first artbook. Thanks. Tomas
@initiatezao - hiya :), it's all digital, predominately done in Corel Painter 11, then exported intp pixelmator for a grungey texture layer. Not too much faffing around with layers on this one actually, as I was working light to dark for a change I was forcing myself to think a little differently.
Really love Abe's pixelated camoflage shirt, I'd buy one of those shirts. :)
@Aurora Borealis….Dig the strip. Story was easy to follow. @Paul….Sweet sketch. The one's that are for no damn good reason are sometimes the best. @Herr Hussein…Damn skippy! Awesome sauce. Shame you missed the deadline. @Neil…That's one intense stare she has. Shield-Maiden! @Initiatezao…Spot-on likeness.
@ Rooth, WOW FANTASTIC DRAWINGS ! I don't know who that was who Ziggy killed but if she stole his act she got what she deserved! (the BERLIN stuff is more relevant these days anyhow)
@ Jack Crowder - very nice and absdolutely ridiculous
I'm playing essayist this month maybe some scribbles later I hope
@mojokingbee: Thank you, clarity of storytelling is one of the things that are very important to me when it comes to making comics. I don't think I'll ever be an amazing artist so I'll at least try to be a great storyteller, heh.
Meanwhile, while my tablet is still borked (and any money that falls into my pockets goes for food/bills) I've been experimenting again with pure pencil comics. So I have a VERY important question and if I could get as many answers as possible I'd be very grateful.
Below you have two edits of the same scan. Which version do you think looks better, the upper one (where I "tresholded" the entire thing thus maing it pure b/w) or the lower one (where I just upped contrast to about 80% and desaturated it, leaving smoother greyscale pencils).
@Seantaclaus: that is AMAZING!! @MOJOKINGBEE: AS ALWAYS, YOU'RE ROCKING. oops, I screamed. @NeilFord: that's beautiful. @Amalgamated Biscuit: I LOVE your style. Those ìcs are awesome. Do you have a website?? I'd love to see more of that!
Damn, so many bautiful works, to get started...
I'm one page to finish this old project. I can't believe how pacient the writer and creator has been with me. But, I'm not so confident in my luck. I hope he get's easy on me. Hopefully.
